Laid on the diamond, not square 👀

Black and white chequer vinyl, in at Groby.

Running it on the diagonal means every tile along the wall is a cut, and the points have to line up down both sides of the landing or the whole floor looks twisted. Set out from the centre first, always.

A chequer floor suits an older house and it wipes over in a minute.

Basket weave in a grey oak 👀

Kellars Orbis vinyl, in at Groby.
A pattern like this has to be set out from the middle before anything goes down. The weave runs in two directions at once, so any drift shows up at both walls rather than one. Cut in clean along the skirting and into the doorway.

Vinyl in a pattern this strong gives a plain room something to look at, and it wipes over in a minute.

A snagged loop gets cut level, never pulled. Surface scratches on LVT usually buff out. Wax and gum come off with ice, never heat.
Burn marks though, leave those alone and ring us. A patch is often possible and rubbing it makes that harder.

Light oak herringbone, in at Groby.
A floor like this gets worked off one centre line at the start. If that is out by a fraction, you can see the points drifting by the time you reach the far wall.

It copes well with a busy space too, and it mops over in a couple of minutes.

That is where it either works or it doesn't 🤔

Chevron oak, in at Groby.

Both ends of every board are cut on an angle so the halves meet on one line, and the whole run has to stay true as it passes the radiator and into the corner. No bar, no cover strip, just a clean line.

Natural oak keeps the grain reading at this scale instead of looking flat.

One floor running through the whole downstairs, no bars at the doors 👀

It makes a house feel bigger, and the eye carries straight through instead of stopping at every room. The catch is that it all gets decided at the start. One set-out for the lot, and the levels sorted across every room before a plank goes down.

Worth knowing where to stop too. Most people keep carpet upstairs.

That red border against the white paint 👌

Sisal runner with a red bound edge, in at Groby.

The binding is the hard part. It has to hold a straight line down every tread with equal paint showing either side, and the sisal weave has to stay square the whole way as well.

Sisal is tough and full of texture, which is why it suits a staircase.
