Visited the 62nd Essex Open exhibition at the Beecroft Art Gallery, last week. I'm thrilled that my two linocut prints were selected: 'The Hagstone' and 'Demeter'.
Thank you Heidi Wigmore for selecting my work. I thoroughly enjoyed viewing the exhibition this year and I think this selection's presentation, variety and diversity is why.* Such a fab celebration of local creatives - it deserves to be seen in-person, but I am still sharing some snaps of some of my favourites so swipe along!
The above is my linocut print 'The Hagstone'. I've started to lean more into my folklore interests recently and this piece is about seeing a landscape's hidden magic. Whether it's real or not is up to you...
*Of course, another reason is now Tris has started school, I actually had the time to enjoyably meander through without having to dig around for the hundredth snack to stop him from shouting about how bored he is 🫢
My linocut print 'Demeter'. For me, she represents nurturing the land, reaping what you sow, facing the changing seasons and motherhood through adversity. Looking back, I feel like she's an apt visual summary of this year.
What a delight there are so many printmakers and prints exhibited this year! Obviously pleased to see Grace Edkins beautiful woodcut as an exhibition neighbour. Another striking print from Vadims Pjatrikovs. And I know how much work and love was poured into Anne M Lee reduction print of Old Leigh Buoy.
What an incredible display of 3D works, too. There's work here from some of the absolute loveliest creatives I'm proud to know and work with 💚
I'm including my friend, the very talented Nicola Upton, who I've loved seeing explore a new direction in her mosaics, drawing inspiration from the estuary. Nicola following her own interests has been a lovely reminder for me to stay curious and do the same (I've not told you this before, Nicola 😂)
Also being exhibited at the Essex Open are more of my wonderful fellow Right Hemisphere artists:
