So thats another week over and out…. Hospital check up confirms no broken bones in the manky-ankle…. But most likely alot of torn ligaments - YAY! Unlike my horses of the past i do not take well to box rest, bandaging and cold hosing. But i will admit to some form of defeat in that walking and doing all the usual stuff is not pleasant so i will take a back seat at times. Most frustrating is not being able to do the things i wanted to do with the ponies (though i doubt they care very much about my lack of plans now as they continue to stuff their bodyweight in round bales of hay at my expense!) suddenly oscar’s sole purpose in life is to kick, tread on or throw things at said sore ankle and then realise and oh so sweetly turn with angel eyes and say ‘sorry mummy’ while i swear between gritted teeth with tears in my eyes!!
We acquired a puppy just before xmas too…. Shes a great trip hazard… but otherwise is actually such a good good girl, so i shouldnt complain, shes not half as bitey as the last one was as a puppy which is a total godsend, and although i havnt spent much time training her due to juggling just about everything else she does know how to sit and can walk alright ish on a lead already. But she does have a nasty habit of sh**ting on the path right in front of the door which is not ideal!
Richards having a binge on Torchwood at the moment which is making me question his sanity as i think its all very messed up and way too out there for me…. But thats just me i know alot of people like it so each to their own.
There seems to have been alot of talking recently about competing this year, Richard has alot of plans which include running ponies around rings at shows in all weathers while my grand plans of riding are now all on hold. I have however said that this year if its absolutely pi**ing it down and we need to get towed out (or even in!!) anywhere im not going. With the weather i can hear outdoors i think i may need to take up crocheting instead of anything to do with horses.
Our house is being repaired due to a rather surprise flash flood back in sept 2024… yes 2024!! And things have been progressing a fair bit this last week to my great excitement! Short lived though this was when a new water feature appeared in the ceilings of the bedrooms….. hopefully this is now mended too but it certainly feels like one disaster after another with this house that just keeps on taking….
I almost said on the upside i haven’t managed to injure myself further this week however the exploded blood vessel in my eyeball would say otherwise - until then things weren’t too bad but now i just look like im falling apart and have a Frankenstein eye!! So scary-mary i am this week after all…Maybe things will improve next week? But really my upside this week was a trip out shopping with my mum and my sister which involved so many laughs my sides hurt and i feared for more exploding eye incidents while my mum contended with a random bursts of nosebleeds at inappropriate moments. It reminded me that we must always take time to be surrounded by those who can make us laugh until we cry and take us for who we are. These people are the most important ones who will get you through anything! Cherish them and those moments, some of those laughs will be talked about for years to come.
‘Til next time, stay silly! Xx

Well here is 2026….. i would love to say its going really well but thats just impossible around here i think now… 2025 ended with me in A&E for a suspected broken ankle after turning around in a dry field. Yes DRY field!! Feeling like a total idiot and with my darling child screaming his head off as i knocked him flying too and managed to take his Croc off in the process…. He didnt care that he was on the floor just that mummy had the audacity to tread on the back of his croc and remove it from his foot. Rich was on the phone and didnt really show much interest in us both flailing round on the floor until i said i couldnt get up!! So there i find myself, sat on a car battery next to the paddock with an ankle that is on fire. Oscar is now reunited with his missing croc and some normality is resuming. Rich finishes his phone call and we realise i am not in any way going to be able to walk through the woodland area back to the car…. My luxury mode of transport… the well used and battered poo picking barrow… thank the lord for my equidry meaning i wasnt covered in old p**p! I was rather unceremoniously bounced back to the car through the woodland with the fence battery balanced on my lap and my feet in the air. But at least he got me back to the car i should be grateful! Fast forward a few hours in A&E and luckily the damage isnt as bad as i had thought, nor the doctors worry either, and its just damaged tendons, no broken bones! Still alot of rest etc etc (i would like to add here that i am NOT good at this rest thing people talk about!!) So back home we go to try this rest thing out. I did a little of it thanks to the painkillers they have me in hospital, until they wore off. Bu**er. Rich made dinner which was a treat and oscar tried his hardest to behave! New Years eve was not spent down the pub as planned but on the sofa with my foot in the air watching Pirates of the Carribean.

4am…. I hear hoofbeats…. Im a light sleeper and i had taken those painkillers earlier so i did think i was a bit looney…. Nope those were definitely hooves outside the bedroom window. Now every horseperson knows that if you hear hooves in the middle of the night where they shouldnt be, even if you had a limb hanging off, you are out of bed with wellies on like a shot! And yes i was! Three of the four ponies are in the yard and the other has buggered off back to the field as i hear her thunder across the bridge…. Grab a feed bucket as you do… and then i hear it. Hooves on the road at a gallop. Now that SHOULDNT be happening!!! Shouting for her i hear her hit the gravel drive and stop, im there too now and let her in the front gate into the garden. You just couldnt make this up now could you. Im wondering how on earth my ‘better year than last year’ can get better already! Ponies now ensconced in their stables and happy with feeds off we trudge to find out what the hell happened to my very boring ponies who at midnight stood calmly watching the fireworks together like a little group of happy kids. None the wiser but all the electric fencing in tatters and the high wooden 5 bar gate to the field still in tact but with a lovely set of ‘oh sh*t’ skidmarks to take off…. So she jumped it then!! Fully rugged up and very unfit yet the sod managed to jump that!! Yet she wont even canter ridden without trying to buck you off let alone jump!! Forget the working hunter classes she should be doing the next foxhunters!! Baffled we return to bed with the joys of fencing awaiting us in a few hours when the rest of the world is waking up with new years hangovers.

I hobbled around at work, i run a boarding cattery, so work never stops here! Luckily i had some help from the girls and a good friend who stepped in to help too last minute. We had some good laughs and ended the morning feeling more normal and grateful for those around us who come to help out when we need them! Checking in on the gate jumping idiot it seems that calming powder from Premier Performance really works a treat!! Ive had some in the drawer for ages and with her being quite wired after her ordeal i gave her a scoop in her feed before i went to bed, lets just say i wish i was as relaxed as her… i might try it sometime if it works that well for her!! Rich mended the fences with oscar on the quad and they both came back in filthy and cold but happy and the ponies back out for an hour or two. Im sitting with the foot in the air again wondering if the sprint around the yard in the night might have not really done it any favours after all, i know the doctor said to try and move it but i dont think that what he had in mind!

Needless to say the next day the ankle is not happy but im persevering as it frustrates me not being able to do what i would normally. Ive done a ton of washing for work and home…. I dont know how one child goes through so many clothes in one day…. And the shoes that went fence mending in the mud… well im not sure even my yard machine will handle them but its worth a try! Ive rested a bit, and been a useful sleeping passenger for Rich while we collected a new carriage for the ‘gate jumper’ (whos name is actually Millie) to start some indoor driving. Though after her antics in the night i think i might try riding her again as jumping might be fun on something that can really REALLY jump after all. So lets see what happens as 2026 gets into the swing of things….. welcome to the year of the horse!! It should have been lunged first!!!

If its given you a cause to smile please like and share to give someone else a smile too

Krissie xx
