Red Five Forge

Red Five Forge Beautiful, handcrafted kitchen knives made in Suffolk, England.

I have been a teacher of woodwork and other crafts for the last twenty years but it was only in March 2016 that I decided to further my skill set by enrolling on a knife making course where I forged my first blade. Although it was the most basic of objects, it was my first step into the vast and wonderful craft of bladesmithing and the beginning of Red Five Forge…. For me, making knives has become

an absolute passion and has sent me on a thoroughly enjoyable journey the end of which I am in no hurry to reach. I’ve been focusing mainly on kitchen knives for the past couple of years, in particular, pattern-welded Damascus steel blades. This involves working all kinds of high carbon steel into some beautiful, ‘fluid’ patterns that you only truly get to appreciate once the blade has had its final etch.

That’s a wrap on my March two-day damascus course and the guys absolutely killed it! 💪

Once again that’s 4 handmade, original and absolutely beautiful pieces that head out into the big wide world and four very happy customers 😊

I have added a few more dates later in the year so why not jump on in and see what all the fuss is about 😉

So the November course done and another 4 beautiful pieces of cutlery head out into the big wide world! 🫶 Mike, Josh, Dan & Andrew all hit the ground running and did an amazing job. They produced four beautiful pieces of work and I know will be very much enjoyed by all. 👍

Next up is December and I believe there is still one space available so why not jump in and see what all the fuss is about? 😎

I had the pleasure of working with this lovely group of students over the weekend and once again it’s incredibly satisfying to see their work come together in their own style.👍

At Red Five Forge I am always looking to improve my courses (very difficult as bloody good already😉) so the October kn1ves were the first to leave the forge all tucked up in my new sheaths 😇

I’m rather chuffed with this 210 X 51mm gyuto in a feathered-mosaic pattern. The feathering is subtle but I think it kind of binds the pattern together in a way that you don’t get with a more segmented traditional mosaic.

It’s always nice to have a play with a new technique and definitely very satisfying to finally get a knife finished up in the newly found chaos that I call life… 🙃

The handle is a dyed and stabilised piece of Curly Suffolk Sycamore that I got from that I think works really well on this piece.

Will be available ✅

I think you’ll all agree that Hannah, Joly and all produced some beautiful pieces and my mission of ridding the world of mediocre cutlery takes one more small but meaningful step forward - 😊

Very chuffed with the second off the bench for 2025. This 7.25” bold feather k-tip is capped off with a beautiful piece of local stabilised cork oak, some African blackwood and a few shiny bits to bring a little bling 👌✨🙃
