I am sharing this piece (now titled) 'Real Leather (Old Bags series)', in part as a celebration of ̇nternationalwomensday.
Real Leather (Old Bags series) reclaims that casual insult used to diminish older women. Each handbag holds a painted glass portrait of an older woman who displays in various ways their displeasure at this insult. Handbags are sometimes used as a sort of symbolic object used to caricature or trivialise older women. The project takes that symbolism and the insult 'old bag' and throws it back at the viewer to confront the casual cruelty of the stereotype.
Many thanks go to my fabulous friends and for allowing me to paint them for this project.

Join me for a festive one-day taster workshop at The Project Space at Parndon Mill on Saturday 29 Nov 2025, 10 am – 4 pm, where you’ll learn the beautiful art of stained glass using the copperfoiling method (yes—just like Tiffany lamps!) 🙌

All tools, safety gear and materials provided — all you need to bring is enthusiasm.

Step-by-step guidance from me (15+ years of glass teaching & making) on glass selection, cutting/shaping, copper-foiling and soldering.

Pick a design that speaks to you — Christmas themed (Santa, gingerbread etc) or something a little different if you prefer.

Small group size so you’ll get plenty of one-to-one attention.

Tea, coffee and biscuits included (because craft + biscuits = perfect combo).

Open Studios this weekend! 13-14 September 2025, 11am to 5pm

Would love to see you at our Open Studio. There will be lovely things to look at, wonder over, buy and eat (Turkish food truck and cakes - mmm!)

As well as artist studios to look round, there are two exhibitions and you can mosey round the beautiful Parndon Mill - a great day out.
