Vintage Carved Hardwood Water Buffalo

A beautifully tactile hand-carved hardwood sculpture of a water buffalo, dating probably to the mid-20th century.

Carved from a wonderfully dark and dense hardwood, the buffalo is depicted standing four-square with its head lowered and substantial curved horns framing the expressive face. The carving has an appealing simplicity, with the powerful shoulders, rounded belly and sturdy legs skilfully reduced into a compact and highly tactile form.

The rich, near-black brown surface has developed an attractive aged patina through time and handling, with subtle variations revealing the natural grain of the timber beneath the polished surface. The underside retains the original flat-cut feet, allowing the figure to stand independently.

Water buffalo have long been associated with rural life across much of Asia, and carved representations such as this were produced as decorative objects and expressions of strength, endurance and agricultural life.

A particularly appealing example of folk or ethnographic carving, its small scale and wonderfully tactile quality give it considerable character. Equally suited to a collection of carved animals or Asian decorative arts, or simply displayed as an unusual decorative object within a more contemporary interior.

Condition; Good overall vintage condition commensurate with age and use. There is surface wear and variation to the patination throughout, together with minor marks and abrasions consistent with the age and nature of the piece. The feet are intentionally flat-cut and there is no apparent evidence of a missing base. Please refer to the photographs as part of the condition description.

1935–1965 Mobiloil Lubrication Chart for Cars & Commercial Vehicles

A striking and highly decorative piece of original mid-century automobilia, this large Mobiloil Lubrication Chart was produced for cars and commercial vehicles manufactured between 1935 and 1965.

Featuring the instantly recognisable Mobil branding, the chart is headed “Lubrication Chart – For Cars & Light Commercial Vehicles 1935–1965” and provides detailed period lubrication guidance for a huge range of manufacturers and models. The bold red header, warm cream background and classic Mobiloil, Mobilube and Mobilgrease advertising panels make this an exceptionally attractive piece of original garage and workshop ephemera.

Originally intended as a practical reference chart for garages and service workshops, it would now make a superb decorative statement piece for a classic car collection, garage, workshop, showroom, man cave or automobilia interior.

The chart measures an impressive 28.5 inches wide by 44.5 inches high and retains its original metal bars to the top and bottom, together with its hanging fittings, adding considerably to its authentic workshop character.

Condition; Displaying honest age and workshop wear throughout, including creasing, discolouration, marks, edge wear and some losses around the margins. There is heavier wear and darkening towards the lower section, as photographed. Despite this, the chart remains highly decorative and presents beautifully as an original piece of period automobilia. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.

1936–1960 Mobil Lubrication Chart for Cars & Commercial Vehicles

A superb and increasingly scarce piece of mid-century motoring and automobilia, this large original Mobiloil Lubrication Chart provides detailed lubrication information for cars and commercial vehicles manufactured between 1936 and 1960.

Produced by the Mobil Oil Company Limited, the chart is headed “Lubrication Chart – For Cars & Commercial Vehicles 1936–1960” and provides an extensive period reference covering recommended oils, lubricants, capacities and manufacturers’ grade guidance for a vast range of vehicles.

The design is particularly striking, with the classic red, cream, black and gold Mobil branding, prominent Mobiloil logo and large-format tabulated information. Originally intended as a practical workshop or garage reference, it now makes a fantastic decorative piece for a classic car garage, workshop, man cave, showroom or automobilia collection.

Measuring an impressive 28.5 inches wide by 44.5 inches high, the chart retains its original hanging eyelet together with the original metal bars to the top and bottom, giving it an excellent authentic presentation.

1965 Original Mobiland Recommendations – Farm Tractors & Machinery Advertising Chart

An impressive original 1965 Mobiland Recommendations advertising and reference chart, produced by Mobil Oil Company Limited for farm tractors and machinery.

A superb piece of original 1960s agricultural and industrial advertising, featuring the iconic Mobil branding alongside bold period typography and charming illustrated tractor graphics.

The chart provides extensive period lubrication recommendations and technical information for a wide range of farm tractors, cultivators, stationary engines, chainsaws and agricultural machinery, together with a detailed tractor maintenance guide.

Measuring approximately 27 × 41 inches, this is a substantial original canvas display with metal hanging bars top and bottom. Its impressive scale and strong red, cream and black colour scheme give it considerable decorative presence, making it particularly well suited to a vintage garage, workshop, agricultural interior, office or industrial-style space.

Dated 1965.

The chart is in very good overall condition for its age, retaining excellent colour and strong printed detail. There are a small number of minor losses around the extremities, including one or two small tears and occasional pinholes, consistent with its age and former use.

The original metal hanging eye to the top bar is missing; the chart is presently hung using the existing small hole in the canvas. This is reflected in the condition, although it remains very presentable when displayed.
