Our page is not regularly monitored. We are one of the leading antique clock specialists in the country, with an international reputation for our restoration and conservation work on pre-pendulum lantern and chamber clocks from the early 17th century. W.F.Bruce hold a large stock of good-quality antique clocks from the early 17th to 19th century. We offer a selection that is sourced not j

ust for its originality, but which is also stylish, and very often rare and unusual. Additionally, we usually have a number of longcase clocks made by Sussex clockmakers and as one might expect at least two or three from Lewes itself, which was home to several outstanding longcase clock makers, including Abraham Weston, Thomas Harben and Richard Comber. All clocks are given a minimum two-year guarantee and are delivered and set up personally. Our busy in-house restoration workshop offers a complete antique restoration service. Sympathetic conservation of all types of quality antique clocks from the 17th to the late 19th century are undertaken, using the same traditional hand skills as the clockmakers who made them. Whilst we try to update our website as often as possible with current stock, if you do not see what you are looking for please call us as we have many more items that have not yet been photographed or are awaiting restoration.

Returning the pulleys for Samuel Ollive of Lewes who was exploring a three wheel going train in an eight day clock sometime between 1771 - 73. Based on an idea from Benjamin Franklin and through James Ferguson he additionally showed that things don’t have to be complicated as he demonstrated with this simple pulley arrangement providing longer duration. Not many clockmakers will draw out and fit a set of half dead beat pallets in the normal course of their work. This set made by 18 year old Rhys Davies as he completes his time with us is a very commendable effort.
Double faceted with a crisp locking corner demonstrate great control without machine lapping etc. Great skills to learn and not everyone masters them. What appears black on the inside of the pallets will be admired by clockmakers in the future.
Well done Rhys, and good luck for the future.
