It started with two brilliant women.
My mum, Liz, and her great friend Betty have spent the last year knitting. Not just one or two bits for the winter. They have created more than 100 hats, scarves and gloves.
Real items. Beautifully handmade. Every purl and knit made with care.
Today, they donated the whole collection to The People’s Kitchen. A brilliant charity that gives warmth, food and support to people facing real hardship.
And Changing Lives, who go out every day of the year day at 6.30am to support those experiencing rough sleeping.
By the time you read this, they will be giving them to people who will be spending this winter on the streets.
Seeing these hats and scarves laid out sparked an idea 💡
Liz and Betty have done the hard work. They've given their time, their energy and their hearts. I started thinking about how others could join in - without the need to take up knitting.
Here it is.
A simple, warm and slightly quirky way to help.
You can buy an Invisible Hat!
You don’t receive a hat.
Nothing arrives in the post.
But by buying an Invisible Hat, you make a donation.
The donation goes to The People’s Kitchen and Changing Lives so they can continue to do their incredible work.
Elizabeth and Betty have created the real hats. Your Invisible Hat is your way of standing beside them.
It feels fun.
It feels light.
It feels right.
And it does something meaningful.
If you would like to take part, you can find out more and buy an invisible hat by visiting the Invisible Hat website.
Link is in the comments but if you go to InvivibleHat and add a .co.uk you'll find it.
They’re a bargain!
Thank you for taking a moment to read this.
Thank you for supporting two generous women in their eighties who have been quietly knitting all year.
And thank you for sending a little extra warmth out into the world.
Be Brilliant!
