Beams, sloped ceilings, and not a straight wall in sight 👌

Primo Ultra in Doeskin, fitted by our Lichfield team.

Every edge in a room like this is a cut. Scribed round the beam feet where they land on the floor, tight into the corner under the slope, and clean along the low window reveal.
Soft twist in a loft bedroom is the right shout. Quiet on the boards above and comfortable to walk on first thing.

Why does a 4m by 3m room need more than 12 square metres? It is the question we get asked most 📏

Carpet comes off a roll in fixed widths, usually 4m or 5m. Your room was not built around that, so some waste is always in there.

Then the bits people forget. Every doorway needs carpet running into it, and a bay adds length you would never measure from the middle of the floor 🚪

Pattern costs more too, because it has to line up across joins and up the stairs.

Two colours meeting on a long straight run means every join has to hold a dead line the whole way down the corridor, and it does. Cut in round the pillars and the doorways with no wander either side.

The planks carry the same line from one room into the next with no bar splitting them up, so the joins stagger evenly the whole way through. That is all set out before the first plank goes down.

Wide plank herringbone in a mixed oak, in at Lichfield.

Every edge here is a cut. Round the shower tray, tight to the pedestal, behind the pan, then a clean line at the door.

Water off the shower is no bother, and it wipes over in a minute.

Twist, loop, saxony. The words on a carpet label mean very little until someone explains them 🧶

A twist has the yarn twisted tight so the pile stands upright. It hides footprints and vacuum lines, which is why it ends up in most busy houses.

A loop pile keeps the yarn looped rather than cut. It holds its shape brilliantly in doorways, though we would think twice if you have got a cat with a habit of scratching.

Saxony is the deep, soft, longer pile. Lovely in a bedroom. Put it down a hallway and you will be looking at footprints by teatime.

Best thing you can do is come and stand on all three. Pop into Lichfield and we will get the samples out.

Three flights, every turn different 👌

Axminster Simply Naturals, fitted by our Lichfield team through the stairs, half landings and hallway.

Old stairs like these are never square, so each tread gets measured on its own and cut tight against the dark timber. Look at the turns, no bunching where the flights change direction.

A natural weave like this stands up to constant traffic and keeps its texture instead of flattening off.

Someone has claimed the top step 🐾

Striped herringbone flatweave runner, in at Lichfield.

Stripes are unforgiving on stairs. They have to stay parallel with the treads the whole way up, so the runner gets set out from the bottom step and checked as it goes, and there is equal white paint showing either side.

A tight flatweave takes the traffic of a staircase, and dog claws do not pull it the way they pull a looser pile.

The fit goes smoother when a bit of prep is done first, so here is what we would ask you to sort before the van pulls up 🚚

Rooms cleared and wardrobes emptied. A heads up on whether you want the old flooring taken away.

Any doors that already catch, because a thicker underlay can mean they need easing off.
Somewhere near the front to park, and a shut door for the dog 🐕

And get the decorating done before the flooring goes down, never the other way round.
