Lets Rescue these Free drawers

I stripped back the layers of old paint

But the feet and details were a little trickier and I hand sanded some of these areas

The wood beneath was beautiful, so I decided on a soft cream green glaze for a more cottage core tone

I finished by top coating them both for a longer lasting finish

Do you think the new farmhouse finish was worth the work?

Ad | This cable drum was free and I thought it could make a great addition to the garden

I started by giving it a thorough clean before using natural oil woodstain in Ebony to treat and protect the wood.

I had a lot of leftover wood from our gazebo build so refinished this with a contrasting Osmo UK country shades willow in the wind

Once it was dry I measured the height and cut it down before nailing the pieces around the edge of the cable drum.

I then added a few plants, now just debating if I should add some fairy lights inside

You won’t believe how this piece looks now!

This wash stand was looking a little worse for wear so after a good clean I sanded back the old finish to give it a farmhouse update.

I decided on a mid grey finish with built in primer and top coat.

I wanted to leave the table top wood but wanted a softer finish so used a raw finish varnish before cleaning up the door k**b.

But what do you think of the new farmhouse finish?

But first we need to strip back the old finish

I used a varnish stripper to remove the old dark finish before giving this vintage table a good clean.

I wanted a lighter, farmhouse finish that would still protect the wood from every day use

I decided a tinted wax to add a little depth and character that also let the beautiful grain shine through.

Let me know what you think of the new look

Let’s Paint it Black…

I stripped back the old orange toned wax to uncover the most beautiful wood grain.

I wanted to do something a bit different to the lighter farmhouse finish so I decided on a black wash.

I sprayed the wood down and painted it with a black wash before wiping the excess back.
I then top coated it for a longer lasting finish.

Can You Believe this Vintage Cocktail Cabinet was Only £25?!

I started by stripping back the old, worn varnish

Unfortunately only the doors and top had this beautiful veneer so I decided on a little black paint to frame the stunning grain and let it take centre stage.

I then refinished the exposed wood to give a rich tone.

What do you think of the new look?

This £20 Mid Century Dresser was long overdue a makeover.

I stripped back the old varnish before adding a rich British racing green to the sides and trim.

A added a touch of gold to the door fronts before varnishing the exposed wood

The perfect combination of mid century and modern

Now Let’s Get it Summer Ready…

The old paint was quite literally peeling off this solid wood bench.
So with a little help from the jet washer, I was able to get it completely free of its old finish.

I decided a primer and treatment to prevent rot and insect damage was well worth it before I added some much needed colour.

Now I just need the sun to make an appearance

Let’s lighten this old blanket box…..

I love vintage furniture but the dark finish doesn’t suit our home and most of the dark pieces I pick up are worn and patchy

I gave this blanket box a thorough clean before sanding back the old varnish.

I don’t often do a paint wash, but I decided to test it out on this piece for a fresh modern look before sealing it to protect the finish.

I’d love to know what you think of the new farmhouse finish

I loved these drawers, but they needed a little makeover

I stripped back the old chalk paint and found beautiful wood beneath

I really wanted to keep the grain exposed and warm but without adding any orange tones.

I decided on a neutral tinted wax to keep the wood warm and the grain visible.

And this is why I love upcycling. Just because a piece has been refinished, that doesn’t mean that’s how it got to stay forever.
