A Little Change, A Beautiful Transformation!

Sometimes, you don't need to reupholster an entire sofa to give it a completely new lease of life.

This lovely transformation is a perfect example of how renewing just the seat cushions can make such a difference.

By introducing a beautiful, warm terracotta fabric, we've refreshed the look of this much-loved leather sofa while retaining its original character and charm.

The rich, earthy tones complement the existing leather beautifully, whilst the gorgeous patterned scatter cushions bring everything together, creating a wonderfully cosy and inviting feel.

The Stainton Wing Chair, traditional craftsmanship, beautifully considered.

A warm and beautifully layered collection of fabrics and trimmings, bringing together rich burgundy, earthy reds, soft creams and touches of golden ochre.
We love how the mix of pattern, texture and decorative detail gives this scheme so much depth, from tactile velvets and traditional motifs to embroidered fabrics, braids and tassel trims. Each element has its own character, yet together they create a wonderfully warm, collected and timeless feel.

Where it all started… 1984.

Looking back at this photograph is a wonderful reminder of just how far we’ve come.

Crowther & Sons began in 1984, with a passion for traditional upholstery, beautifully made furniture and, above all, doing things properly. What started as a small business built around craftsmanship has grown and evolved over the years, but those principles have never changed.

More than four decades later, we feel incredibly fortunate to still be flourishing, creating and doing what we love every day.

Styles have changed, fabrics have changed and our workshop has certainly grown, but at the heart of the business you’ll still find the same thing: skilled hands, attention to detail and furniture made to be enjoyed for many years to come.

We’re enormously grateful to every client who has trusted us with a treasured piece of furniture, commissioned something new, recommended us to friends and family, or simply followed our journey.

From where it all started in 1984, to the busy Crowther & Sons workshop of today we’re very proud of how far we’ve come, and even more excited about what’s still ahead.

Here’s to craftsmanship, family business and over 40 years of doing what we love.

🍂 Autumn is here… and the pre-Christmas rush begins.

There’s always something about the first signs of autumn that makes us start looking at our homes a little differently.

As the evenings draw in and we begin spending more time indoors, thoughts turn to comfort, interiors and getting our homes ready for the months ahead. Fabrics are chosen, favourite chairs are given a new lease of life, and plans that have been considered throughout the summer suddenly become a priority.

For us at Crowther & Sons, this also marks the beginning of our pre-Christmas rush one of the busiest and most enjoyable times of the year in our Nettleham workshop.

Our benches begin filling with much-loved pieces awaiting reupholstery, alongside new bespoke furniture being handmade for clients hoping to have everything just right for Christmas.

We love this change of season. There’s a real sense of anticipation in the workshop as beautiful fabrics arrive, projects come together and finished pieces leave us ready to be enjoyed at home.

There’s something particularly satisfying about seeing a scheme come together through fabric.

This moodboard explores a warm, layered palette of terracotta, rust, ochre and soft neutrals, balanced with subtle touches of blue. A considered mix of woven textures, embroidery, bold pattern and more restrained plains gives the collection depth without allowing any one element to dominate.

The combination feels relaxed and characterful, with a slightly artisanal quality perfect for creating an interior that feels collected and individual rather than overly coordinated.

For us at Crowther & Sons, moodboards are an important part of the design process. They allow us to explore how colour, scale, pattern and texture will work together before those fabrics are transformed into beautifully made curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstered furniture.

A palette inspired by texture, craftsmanship and quiet luxury.

This mood board brings together a considered collection of natural tones, tactile weaves and beautifully detailed trimmings, from soft linens and textured bouclés to subtle stripes, herringbones and decorative woven finishes.

Warm oatmeal, ivory and stone are layered with touches of richer caramel and soft grey, creating a scheme that feels relaxed and understated while still offering plenty of depth and character.

For us, a mood board is where an interior begins to take shape. It allows us to explore how colour, texture, pattern and craftsmanship will work together before those ideas are translated into upholstery, curtains, blinds, cushions and other bespoke furnishings.

A beautiful scheme coming together at Crowther & Sons.

This moodboard brings together rich botanical fabrics, textured weaves and traditional decorative trimmings from, creating a wonderfully layered palette of soft blues, greens and natural tones.

Choosing the right combination of fabric and trim is an important part of any upholstery project. It’s often these smaller details a braid, fringe or a carefully chosen contrast that give a finished piece its individual character.
