A few months ago I had the pleasure of sitting in the window of to paint a little lost lamb for and . Of course I took a quick sketch in my travel sketchbook before I started and am now able to share it with you ☺️ Had to get the gold ink out for this one 🙌
This bookshop has the most beautiful, exclusive, deliciously wrapped and rare books. An absolute sweet shop for the imagination and their membership options are swoon worthy.

My first ever London bookshop window painting was Daunt Books Holland Park a couple of years ago and I was so nervous! It didn’t take long for the warm atmosphere of this neighbourhood bookshop and its booksellers to put me at ease. With thanks to manager Caroline Roseberry Hunter for making me feel so welcome 🥰 Once I saw books all lined up in the window I knew that I was hooked. Painting bookshop windows was now officially my happy place.

Happy Bookshop Day!!!
After visiting over 100 bookshops here are some of the things I love and have learned from these precious places. I highly recommend you visit your local bookshop today for a browse and a recommendation from a bookseller, I promise it will make your day brighter.

A trip to Todmorden to celebrate a friend birthday took my right past the door of award winning bookshop Truman Books. What a brilliant bookshop! I got to meet bookseller Wendy and her fabulous aunty 🥰 and buy myself yet another Benjamin Myers book.
Owner Amanda told me about some of her favourite tiny customers (they have a wonderful children’s area downstairs). She has a fond memory of one child in particular, raising their book to the counter while whispering “Your bookshop smells like magic”. ❤️
Did you know … the smell of the earth after rain is called ‘Petrichor’ but the smell of books is called ‘biblichor’ isn’t that wonderful?!

What a day painting The Edinburgh Bookshop , the booksellers are always so friendly and helpful. Thank you Stephanie, Fiona and Ivana for looking after me 🥰 What a super cool cover by ! I had so much fun painting this wild lion for Kate Atkinson’s new novel - Our Noble Selves for its publication tomorrow (10th Sept) by Doubleday . They even have special indie editions with a luminous blue lion on the cover 🦁

Last night was one of those occasions where I wanted to squeeze on tight to every moment because I knew it is a once in a lifetime experience. To be invited to the Fig Tree dinner as one of their authors was surreal, 16 year old Marisa would have never believed you. To be in the same room as, and hear such beautiful, challenging, heart wrenching stories from other Fig Tree authors was humbling. I’m looking forward to pouring over each of their books on the train journey home (in what is the largest bag of books I’ve ever attempted to take back to Scotland).
Like a border collie in a room full of tennis balls I’m going to struggle to choose which to start with.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone Fig Tree Penguin Books for hosting such an exquisite evening and for every person who shared a words of encouragement to this slightly dazed new author.

Two Manchester beauties The Bookworms and Chorlton Bookshop caught on my last trip to the city. Gutted I didn’t have time to visit Simply Books! But glad I’ll be able to catch their brand new bookshop concept “Prologue” (it looks stunning) when I return 🙌

I may have been stranded on a Hebridean island for my birthday (gift number 1) but to come home to such thoughtful gifts from friends and family was really special. They know me so well. All from independent shops and encouraging creativity 🥰
