Frida Kahlo was married to Diego Rivera. They had turbulent relationship - he cheated on her a lot, and at the time she was painting this piece, he was actually having an affair with a female tennis player, who he painted n**e on the ceiling of the Luncheon Club of the Pacific Stock Exchange in San Francisco - charming! They got divorced, but remarried a year or so later.

Did you know Friday Kahlo was born and also died in her family home? Known as La Xasa Azul, or Little Blue House in English. It is now the Frida Kahlo museum.

Did you know, Frida Kahlo was disabled? She is possibly one of the most unlucky people when it comes to her health - when she was 6 contracted polio, which left her with a shorter leg, and then aged 18 she was in a bus crash. which left her with a lot more injuries such as a fractured pelvis. She spent the rest of her life living in a lot of pain. Her parents brought her art supplies when she was confined to bed, and she began painting then.
