Thank you for the amazing response to my latest paintings!💙

I'm delighted by how quickly my watercolour paintings are finding new homes. The watercolours are inspired by the colours, textures and patterns I see along our beautiful Hebridean shores. I love exploring the character of weathered stones, subtle coastal tones and the unexpected shapes that emerge when they're brought together on paper. The response to this mini series has been wonderful, with paintings sold almost as soon as they've gone on display. Thank you to everyone who has visited the gallery and supported my work.

Fresh from the kiln – another batch of Eaval bowls.

These bowls are inspired by Eaval, North Uist's highest hill, and the lochs and landscape that surround it.

There's always a bit of excitement when opening the kiln to see how the firing has developed the glazes. This batch has brought out some lovely movement and depth in the blues, reminding me of the lochs and waterways around Eaval.

Every bowl is a little different. The kiln always has the final say, which is one of the things I love most about working with clay.

One of the most frequently asked questions by visitors to North Uist is, "Where can I see an otter?"

While there's never a guarantee with wildlife, some of our local otters have become quite well known over the years. Bryan is one of them. A bit of a local character, he's been delighting residents and visitors alike with his regular appearances along the shoreline.

Have you ever seen an otter smile? Bryan certainly looks pleased with himself here as he tucks into a green crab. Whether he's showing off his latest catch or simply enjoying the moment, he seems to have perfected the art of posing for the camera.

It's encounters like these that make the Outer Hebrides so special. You set out for a walk and never quite know who you might bump into along the way.

Hosta Beach in North Uist has long been one of my greatest sources of inspiration. Its white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters have earned it comparisons with the Caribbean, but what captivates me most is the way its beauty still catches me by surprise, no matter how many times I visit. The soft whites, sea-glass blues and shell-like tones often find their way into my glaze palette, while the patterns left by the wind in the sand inspire the carved details in my work.

If you'd like to learn more about the inspirations behind my pottery, come and visit me in the gallery. I'd be delighted to share the stories and landscapes that inspire my work, and help you find a special piece to take home as a reminder of the Hebrides.

This lovely photograph of Hosta Beach was taken by my sister, Diane, a talented seascape artist whose paintings are also available to buy in the gallery.

Have You Heard the Corncrake?

One of North Uist's most iconic summer sounds is the distinctive call of the Corncrake. More often heard than seen, these remarkable birds return each year to the island's machair and grasslands.

For many people, hearing that unmistakable "crex crex" call is a sure sign that summer has arrived.

Have you heard a Corncrake this year? Let us know where you heard one. This stunning photograph of a Corncrake was taken at Knockintorran, North Uist, by Gary Ford Photography

Summer on the machair is a special time. The wildflowers are out, the days are long, and there’s always something to stop and admire. Whether it's the colours underfoot, the sound of the corncrakes, or the stunning island skies, every visit offers something different.

What do you love most about the machair in summer?

Seaweed, as they say, is the quiet poetry of the ocean — battered by storms, yet still dancing with the tide.

A wander around Locheport always sends me home inspired. This time it was the ribbons of seaweed wrapped around my fingers. The colours are just beautiful when you stop and really notice them — olives, deep browns, soft golds — far better than anything on a paint chart.

A few hours spent along the shoreline with wet boots, cold hands and pockets full of bits and pieces, and I’m back at the studio with fresh ideas already beginning to form.
