Oasis at foot of Kirkaig falls walk
Achins has been running as a bookshop for over 50 years -over 30 years by Agnes and Alex Dickson. The shop is noted for its wide range of quality books of Scottish interest, Natural History, Hillwalking, popular paperbacks and children’s books. It not only stocks books, but also a wide variety of gifts, CDs, crafts, cards, calendars, hats, socks, gloves, slippers, etc. Agnes has produced her own Assynt collection of photographs, calendars, cards, and more which displays the many beautiful landscapes of this unique area.
The coffeeshop has soup, range of baking, scones, hot and cold drinks and has been described as an “oasis” by customers returning from the walk to the Kirkaig falls. The Kirkaig falls is an hour walk -which starts at the bottom of the drive, although if you can’t make it that far, it is pleasant to go as far as you can. For those wanting to walk further, beyond the Kirkaig falls and loch above, is the iconic mountain of Suilven (best to set off early to attempt this).
After being here for over 30 years, it is getting time for Alex and Agnes to retire. We are open for business, but up for sale. We hope you will tell anyone you know who is interested in moving to this area to consider Achins. It has served our family well for many years and would love to see someone else make this their new home. Achins is much more than a shop, there is a 5 bedroom house, which has been run for B&B in the past. The shop building itself could be used for many different purposes -so if you are looking for space for your own business -this may be what you are looking for. Then there is the land around the house and shop -this measures over 2 acres, so is very private. Although on a hill, there is shelter from prevailing winds and a very peaceful spot -you can hear the river flowing and birds singing. This is an unspoilt landscape and home to wildlife all around (except rabbits which are kept out by fencing!).
