My little niece told me she loves snails. When I asked her why, she paused for a moment, then corrected herself:
"Actually, I love them… but I also dislike them."
She loves their little eyes sticking out and their unique shape. As for what she dislikes about them, we never quite found out.
I, on the other hand, know exactly why I both love and dislike them. I love them because they are an important part of our beautiful ecosystem. But I have to admit, I really struggle with their sticky bodies. As much as I love animals and can happily handle bugs, lizards, or birds, touching a snail with my bare hands is still a challenge for me.
My garden habitat, together with my niece's wish to crochet snails and ladybugs, inspired this project. I hope that one day she will grow up to become a great protector of our ecosystem and all the little creatures that live within it.
Below, I also wanted to show some of the damage these naughty garden visitors can cause.
And just to be clear: despite the damage, I never harm the slugs or snails — I simply relocate them.
