A Rare and Unique Collection of Antique Jewellery ✨

A French silver ‘tank’ ring, circa 1940, set across the front with four synthetic (flame-fusion) sapphires.

Tank rings were especially popular in France in the 1940s, during and immediately after the war. The name comes from their resemblance to the heavy, mechanical forms of military tanks - stepped sides, rounded edges and a deliberately substantial feel.

The best-known examples are made in thick 18K yellow or rose gold, but silver versions were also produced under the Occupation, when gold was strictly rationed and platinum requisitioned for military use.

With materials scarce, synthetic stones such as flame-fusion sapphires became widely used and are now closely associated with tank jewellery.

A French Art Deco cluster ring, c.1920, centred on a button pearl with four triangular-cut rubies arranged in a compass-like cross.

A border of rose-cut diamonds set in platinum completes the geometric design. The ring is crafted in 18K gold.

1.⁠ ⁠A German Biedermeier necklace, circa 1840, in 15K gold with turquoise and seed pearls, known as a “Forget-Me-Not” necklace for its sentimental floral associations.

2.⁠ ⁠An early 19th-century cannetille gold cross, circa 1830, possibly Swedish, with intricate wirework and natural seed-pearl tassels.

3.⁠ ⁠A Dutch diamond necklace, circa 1900, set with 69 rose-cut diamonds in silver-topped 14K gold, including a central rose-cut diamond of approximately 1 carat.

4.⁠ ⁠A late 17th-century Baroque pendant, likely Spanish or Portuguese, centred on a large natural baroque pearl with rose-cut diamonds and intricate gold filigree to the reverse.

5.⁠ ⁠A late Victorian citrine necklace, made in Vienna around 1900, with 8.8 carats of golden citrines set in rosy 14K gold and two elongated pear-shaped drops.

6.⁠ ⁠A contemporary 14K gold necklace strung with approximately 142 natural emerald beads, with diamond-set spacers and a central emerald cabochon drop of approximately 2 carats.

7.⁠ ⁠A Baroque diamond cross, circa 1690–1710, likely Flemish or German, set with 24 rose-cut diamonds in gold and silver, with an engraved reverse.

8.⁠ ⁠A Baroque ruby and enamel pendant, circa 1650–1680, probably Hungarian, with table-cut rubies, polychrome enamel and three articulated saltwater pearl drops.

An Edwardian platinum sapphire and diamond ring, dating to circa 1910.

Set with a natural antique cushion-cut sapphire of approximately 1.6 carats, within an openwork platinum design accented with diamonds.

An Art Nouveau 18K gold pearl and rose-cut diamond ring, dating to around 1910.

The gold shoulders open into sculptural leaves around a flower-like cluster of pearls and rose-cut diamonds, giving the ring its distinctive floral form.

At approximately 2.2cm north to south, it has real presence on the hand.

A French antique ruby and diamond floral brooch, dating to around 1880.

Crafted in 18K gold, it is set with three antique cushion-cut rubies totalling approximately 2.5 carats, surrounded by rose-cut diamonds.

At 3cm in diameter, this is an ideal size for a brooch: large enough to make a statement, but still easy to wear.
