You may have noticed that we did not reopen our Etsy store this time round, and there is a number of reasons why. Etsy is where Lanji Candles started and grew its wings. It gave me a place to start selling my candles, find my first customers and grow a business that I’m incredibly proud of.
But selling on Etsy in 2019 vs 2026 feels like two completely different experiences.
💸 It’s become too expensive for small businesses.
When you’re a small maker, every fee matters, and the growing costs can take a pretty big bite out of your profit.
🏭 It doesn’t feel like the craft marketplace it once did.
I fell in love with Etsy because it was a place to discover independent makers and handmade businesses, but the marketplace feels very different now.
🔍 Being discovered feels harder.
With so many sellers and products competing for attention, standing out as a small handmade business can feel increasingly difficult.
🎯 I want more control over my business.
I want to build Lanji directly through my own website, create a stronger relationship with my customers and have more control over the experience from start to finish.
I’ll always be grateful for Etsy being part of Lanji’s story, but I’m really excited for what comes next. 🤎🕯️✨
