Gardening and good music: two of the best things in life, wouldn’t you agree?

Pick up a copy of the highly limited edition 7” single: another highlight in the Friar Park x Niwaki collection, only in-store at Niwaki Chiltern Street, Niwaki Flagship Semley, our Tokyo pop-up (Wednesday and Thursday this week!) in Tokyo (see web for details) AND as part of the Friar Park x Niwaki Collector’s Edition tool set. Let it roll!

Friar Park x Niwaki is go go go! We’re busy putting the finishing touches to our Tokyo pop-up at Light Box Studios, Aoyama. Please come and say hello on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

If that’s not convenient you could always visit Niwaki Flagship Store or Niwaki Chiltern Street to see the whole range or visit our website for videos, photos and almost all the gear (no 7” singles online - sorry).

Let it roll…

Friar Park × Niwaki, the brainchild of Dhani Harrison and Jake Hobson, has arrived.

Enjoy a closer look at the collection, then follow the link in our bio for the full story, including an exclusive short film and some bonus field notes from our visit.

Pre-orders have come and gone, so quantities are limited. Find the full collection online at niwaki.com or see it in person at our Flagship and London store.

A natural pairing for the roaming pruner, these classic Garden Shears are made from hard-wearing S60C steel – ideal for tackling hedges, shrubs, box clipping and fine topiary.

Return them to their burgundy leather holster when not in use, worn on a belt around the waist or slung over one shoulder.

Find peace in the garden in the Meditation Jacket.

Dhani knew exactly what he wanted: long, loose and slightly monkish, taking a standard-issue Niwaki Kojima Jacket as the starting point and going wild with the design to create the sartorial highlight of this collection.

The oversized hood helps block out distractions to help you clear your mind (and keep the rain off). Two large patch pockets give you somewhere to stash the secateurs while you’re enjoying a quiet moment to yourself, and an embroidered Japanese maple leaf patch stands out against the 12 oz Akamimi Japanese denim.

A little reminder of where the Friar Park x Niwaki collaboration took root, this Hori Hori Pro features a cloud-pruned tree etched into its beechwood handle, inspired by one carefully trained and maintained in the gardens at Friar Park. Alongside it, an equally hard-wearing burgundy Canvas Sheath for safe storage.

Handmade by third-generation craftsmen in Miki, Hyogo, this Hori Hori is built for digging, weeding, planting, cutting and just about any other garden task you set your mind to.

Our classic sun/rain shade reimagined in 16oz black canvas. Use the clamp buckle at the back to adjust the fit, and the Niwaki x Friar Park branding at the front to elicit quiet nods of respect from fellow gardeners.

Woven on traditional shuttle looms in Okayama, the heartland of Japanese denim, this Friar Park x Niwaki Kojima Work Jacket is made from our original 12 oz Akamimi

Love it or begrudgingly tolerate it, autumn is back – and so is everyone’s favourite Dan Ten Quilted Jacket.

Light enough to prevent overheating on a brisk walk, yet toasty enough to put off cranking up the thermostat, it’s the sort of thing you can throw on for pottering about the garden or lounging on the sofa. Cropped sleeves leave your hands free for planting bulbs, nursing cups of tea and whatever else the day throws at you, while two front pockets give cold hands somewhere to warm up.

Choose from Olive Green, Beige or Smokey Navy, and roll up the cuffs for a pop of complementary colour.

Fun fact: it stuffs neatly (or messily) into its own drawstring pouch, making a great emergency pillow.

The extraordinary gardens at Friar Park have healed, inspired and delighted the Harrison family since 1970.

This October, Niwaki and Friar Park are joining forces to launch a limited-edition collection of tools and workwear, born of Dhani Harrison and Jake Hobson’s shared affinity for Japanese craft, British eccentricity and horticultural excellence.

Friar Park x Niwaki launches 12 October 2026.

Friday 18th November

Shimekazari are decorative braided ropes (traditionally made from rice straws, but you’ll be working with raffia) that are placed above entrance ways in Japan to invite good luck and keep bad spirits at bay. While many folk customs have faded, both here and in Japan, Shimekazari are still a very common sight in Japanese homes (and beyond!) in the build up to New Year.

Gracefully sitting to the rear of our Chiltern Street store is a Cryptomeria Japonica (北山台杉) or Daisugi for short! A prime example of ‘Niwaki’ grown by Jake over many years and then creatively pruned. It’s had a lot of attention since the store opened last September:’ if you haven’t seen it yet please stop by and marvel in it’s glory! For now here’s some photos of Jake and the team getting it ready for the journey to London. .hq

Niwaki Workshops: Kintsugi

Transform broken ceramics into beautiful, useful objects.

Kintsugi with Iku Nishikawa
Wednesday 19 October 2022
14:00–17:00 at Niwaki Chiltern Street, W1

Kintsugi was originally developed and practised by makie professionals to repair damaged ceramics. Traditional kintsugi involves the use of a variety of materials along with techniques that allow the practitioner not only to repair ceramics, but also to beautify their repair with metallic embellishments. It’s the exact opposite of invisible mending - in Kintsugi, the flaw becomes a feature of the object.
