I’m really pleased to share that I’ve been shortlisted for the VAA Art100 International 2026.

The work submitted was from my ongoing Residual Ground series, which has been developing around landscape, the perception of time and what remains as a sense of place begins to disappear. I’m very grateful to the VAA judging panel for selecting it for the shortlist and for the ongoing support the organisation gives to all artists.

The final 100 artists will be announced later this year.

I’ve dismantled the whole, covering over while allowing fragments to remain. Beneath the layers, pieces of collage have emerged through scraping and excavation. Traces of earlier shapes can still be seen, but I can no longer remember where they came from

Who needs to go right to the edge?

The blue, self-painted collage paper in this piece should not cover the surface neatly.

Rather, the raw unfinished edges convey a certain, well, edginess. They tell a story in themselves, little glimpses of white paint, bleeding over into collage. Nothing is off limits.

I don’t want this to be a comfortable or resolved image. I want the chaos of information and painting marks to be in conflict with calming planes of colour.
