Summary about Turkic People 🧩

I often use the terms “Turkic” or “Turkic heritage”, but I’ve noticed that not everyone knows what I mean by them.

So I thought I’d explain what Turkic heritage actually means, and why you can find Turkic people and cultures spread across such a huge part of the world.

We’re not all the same, of course 🏹 every nation has its own history, culture, traditions and identity.

But there are also some fascinating connections between us 👀

Last year, I briefly mentioned the story of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site in my stories.
I was surprised by how many people had never heard about this part of history, including my close friends from post-soviet states.
I also decided to step back from my own emotional perspective and share a little more.
I hope this post gives you a context and perhaps inspires you to explore the story further.

35 years ago, on 29 August 1991, Kazakhstan officially closed the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.

A little throwback 🕰️

I still love making little treasures as much as I did when I started, and I’m endlessly grateful that you’ve trusted me 🧸
These photos, shared by you since 2022, have stayed with me all these years. Seeing my pieces become part of your outfits, celebrations, travels, and everyday lives genuinely warms my heart 🌷
Every single one means more to me than you probably realise 🫂
Collection of memories from the past and hopefully many more to come

Lately, it feels like there’s always something new to figure out - postal issues, dropping conversion rates, algorithm updates… and traffic that seems to have a mind of its own 🫠

I won’t lie, sometimes I struggle. Sometimes I get discouraged and wonder if I’m doing enough.
But then I remind myself why I started. I genuinely want to keep creating, sharing my designs and making jewellery that finds its way to the right people 🌷👾
Maybe all of this is just part? The little challenges that make us grow.

And the people who find me along the way… they are something else ✨ So kind. So supportive. So warm. Creating this little community was never really the plan. But somehow, it has become one of the most unexpected and beautiful gifts ☀️

To be honest, ArtKawai has given me real friendships!🤌🏼

If you’re in France or Germany (or another EU country), we recommend ordering from our Etsy shop instead of our website 💌

Orders placed directly through our website may be charged additional import duties, customs clearance fees and courier handling fees when they arrive, and unfortunately, these fees can sometimes add 30–40% (or even more) to your order.

✨ to avoid extra fees, use Etsy that makes your experience more comfortable:
• VAT is collected at checkout
• No unexpected customs bill at your door
• No extra courier handling surprises
• A simpler and more affordable delivery experience

For example, a £12 item ordered directly from our website can become much more expensive after import fees. On Etsy, you see the applicable taxes upfront.

And most importantly, I’m doing everything I can on my side to make sure your packages arrive safely, securely and in perfect condition📦

I carefully prepare and pack every order because I know how exciting it is to receive your little treasures!

Thank you so much for supporting our small business and helping us make your EU orders as smooth as possible! 👾✨🇪🇺

Welcome to Artkawai! I’m Tamila, the designer and maker behind every piece.

I create handmade jewellery inspired by Kazakh and Central Asian heritage, blending traditional vibes with a modern, elegant style. My collection includes earrings, sholpy, shashbau, hair jewellery, amulets, and statement pieces designed to celebrate culture and beauty.

Every piece is carefully hand assembled using brass, gold-plated elements, and stainless steel for lasting quality. I also create custom jewellery, with sterling silver designs available on request.

Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots, looking for authentic Kazakh jewellery, searching for unique Central Asian accessories, or choosing a meaningful gift, each design is made to tell a story and honour tradition.
