A classic-style George II silver beer jug by maker Richard Bayley, London 1731.

Of baluster form with a cast silver handle and spreading foot. Lovely plain features and good early date. Useful for serving cold drinks such as beer, wine or water.

These plain baluster jugs were introduced circa 1720 and remained popular for the next 50 years. They occasionally have hinged covers and make ideal water jugs for the dining table. By the end of the 18th century the jugs became very decorative and became adapted for serving wine.

An attractive 17th Century Antique Silver Beaker, English, circa 1690.

Of tapering form with an embossed band below the rim. Beautifully hand chased to the body is an exuberant, floral design typical of the second half of the 1600’s.

Stamped underneath with silver hallmarks which are very rubbed. The lion mark for sterling silver is partly visible. The second mark is unclear but could possibly be the leopard mark for the London assay office. The third mark is unreadable but would be either the date letter or the maker’s mark.

A superb William IV antique silver soup tureen by makers Charles Reily and George Storer, London 1836.

With matching domed cover and excellent workmanship. Large and impressive; excellent size for serving soup, casseroles and vegetables. The oval bellied shape is applied with stunning cast silver handles, shaped scroll feet, and deep relief flower and foliate ornament.

Stamped with a full set of English silver hallmarks underneath the body; under the lid with maker, lion, date letter and duty mark.

A Commonwealth-Period Antique Silver Communion Cup, By Maker Roger Stevens, London 1650.

This grand silver gilt wine cup has a spectacular history and provenance. It was made in 1650 as one of a set of three cups for St Martins in the Fields, an important church situated near Trafalgar Square in London. This hand crafted cup has a very impressive size and the plain form is reminiscent of the Elizabethan period (16th century) with its tapering bowl and spreading foot. Bright gilt finish. Traces of hand beaten finish. Documented to the base is a hand engraved inscription dated 1650.

One cup and paten has already been sold. The other two cups are available for purchase either singly or together. The price is for one cup only.

An exceptionally rare James II Antique Silver Chocolate Pot, London 1686.

This is one of the earliest surviving English chocolate pots, featuring the rare early baluster form derived from Chinese porcelain. The wooden C-scroll side handle is mounted with applied silver strapwork and topped by a baluster finial.

The pull off lid, shaped like the top of a ginger jar, is attached to the handle by a chain and the urn finial can be removed to insert a swizzle stick in order to stir the chocolate.

George III Antique Silver Stirrup Cup By Maker John Lautier, London 1773.

A beautifully modelled silver hunting cup in the form of a fox head. Fine features. Lovely expressive face and realistic teeth.

Stamped on the rim with a full set of crisp English silver hallmarks. We have attributed the maker’s mark to John Lautier. The stirrup cup held a drink which was consumed while mounted on horseback, usually prior to a hunt moving off. As it is of small capacity it can be emptied quickly and there is no need to set it down during use.

A very interesting George II Antique Silver Shaving Bowl By Maker David Willaume, London 1742

A handsomely proportioned silver shaving basin dating to the mid-1700s, the border engraved with a cypher for George Booth, the 2nd Earl of Warrington. With a plain form and good weight, the dish is lovely to handle; underneath you can see charming tell-tale signs of the handcrafted workmanship. Gentle traces of the earlier gilding are still visible.

Stamped underneath with a full set of English silver hallmarks. There is also the engraved scratchweight of 33=4, and an old museum loan number.

This basin very likely formed part of “The Warrington Plate”, a magnificent collection of silverwares assembled by George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington, at his family estate Dunham Massey during the first half of the 18th century.

A beautifully handcrafted George III antique silver soup tureen by makers Sebastian and James Crespel, London 1762.

Of Rococo form with a matching cover, oval-bellied shape with cast side handles, shaped feet, and broad gadroon borders. Hand engraved on the front is an expansive armorial within a scroll cartouche and side flanked by chased flower ornaments. Excellent size, suitable for vegetables, soups, and stews.

Stamped underneath the body and on the edge of the top rim with a full set of English silver hallmarks.

Antique silver tureens with side carrying handles were introduced during the reign of George II. The lid/cover helped to keep the contents warm. They are generally oval-shaped, although they can be round or rectangular. Some have detachable liners and/or matching stands.

A Superb German Antique Silver Owl Drinking Cup By Maker L Neresheimer, Hanau, Chester 1904.

In the Renaissance style, modelled in the form of an owl with hinged wings. The pull off head is gilded inside. Beautifully modelled and engraved, the quality is very realistic.

The collar of the drinks flask is fully stamped with German marks for L Neresheimer of Hanau, Germany and also for the importer Berthold Muller. The collar, head and both wings are all marked with Chester sterling silver import marks for London 1904.
