New to treowe: the ceramicist Emily Mitchell.

Working from her studio in Norfolk, Emily makes hand-built, thrown and painted ceramics, and almost every piece carries a story. She is drawn to the way everyday and historic objects hold their own histories, taking ideas from classic fiction, literature and the museum collections and archives she spends time with.

She has a soft spot for the souvenir: small, hand-sized pieces made to be held and kept. Ceramics run in her family too. Emily’s mother is the ceramicist Judith Onions, known for her modernist redesign of the classic blue and white striped Cornishware.

Come and see Emily’s work in store, with more to come soon.

New in store: Fosbery Studio.

We have admired the way Daniel Fosbery and his team work for a long time. From a small studio workshop in Kent, they make contemporary decorative lighting by hand, using traditional craft techniques and materials chosen to last: solid brass, 100% natural fabrics, and no plastics anywhere.

This is the kind of considered making we build our own projects around, so bringing it into the shop was an easy decision. A selection is in store now, with more to shop online.

Come and see it.

Meet Lulu Jacobs, the creator behind ‘Lulu’ : She first sat at a pottery wheel in 2022 and since then she has built her practice from a studio at the end of her garden in Walthamstow, making, glazing and firing everything herself, in small batches.
It was her glazes that first attracted us. There is a quality to them that is hard to articulate and immediately obvious when you pick a piece up. Colour that sits in the surface with real intention - and usefulness!
‘Lulu’, arrived at the same time as her daughter, Rudie. Life shifted. Going out became staying in. Friends round, wine open, a long evening with nowhere to be. She started making things for exactly that kind of table. Not to display. To use. Relaxed conversational pieces that have both form and function - our favourite kind of item.
Beautiful, honest pieces, shaped around how people gather and time well spent.
She is local to us, which we love. And later this year she will be opening her Walthamstow studio for beginner throwing sessions, wine included. Worth knowing ;) . See her pieces in the shop and online now.
