The Yellow Door house

In 2017 we started the design for the refurbishment and extension of a Victorian house in Greenwich.
In this project, solutions were sought to adapt traditional houses to contemporary living, Small rooms on the ground floor have been combined to form a multi layer open plan living, dining, kitchen and library. Spaces are defined by material, light, color, levels and lighting solutions, in successive intersection of layers. The Goal: to unlock the full length of the house, connecting the street to the back garden.

A few years ago we entered in a design competition for a "House on a Shoe String" prototype for the Self Build market, which could be built within a certain budget. Given that labour have a high impact on the overall cost of a house, the purpose of the Design would be to allow the home owner(s) to build the house by themselves, with limited or no help by expert trades.

SelfWE is a proposal for a two bedroom detached house that can be built by two people over a period of 8 weeks.
The design envisions a rational internal layout, minimal aesthetic combined with a very light-weighted but robust structural system.
