***OPENING THIS WEEK!***
We are pleased to present a new exhibition by Me On the Map at Woolwich Front Room.
Mark Smith is a graphic designer, artist and mapmaker, and the founder of Me On The Map. Originally from Dorset, Mark moved to London in the 1990s to go to art school, and has called South East London home ever since. His work explores our relationship with place – the streets we walk, the neighbourhoods we belong to and the memories we attach to them. Through hand-drawn typography, Mark reimagines maps as something more personal than a way of getting from A to B. Roads, parks, neighbourhoods and familiar landmarks become part of a wider story about identity, memory and belonging. A map can mark where you grew up, places you've lived, where a relationship began, or simply a part of the city that feels like yours. Me On The Map celebrates those connections, turning familiar geography into something personal to keep, display or give to someone else. Mark’s work includes maps of neighbourhoods across London, including Woolwich and the surrounding areas of South East London.
Come along and see it, it's good to support local artists.
