Celebrating the summer solstice with a midsummer’s dream in bloom, its roots in ancient celebrations tied to the bounties of summer. The heady perfume of wildflowers, paired with the hazy drawn out evening of the longest day of summer, makes Midsummer Bloom a joyful garden to enjoy all year round.

After an inspiring trip to Seville, Cole & Son artists had a lasting impression of the vibrant oranges seen throughout the city.

This delicate, fabric-like representation of Seville’s iconic fruit pays homage to the regal tapestries found hanging in the Royal Alcazar’s Salon de los Tapices with a subtle textured feel to its foliage.

It is Hampton Court’s five-hundred-year rose-growing legacy that inspired Hampton Roses’ design – a charming floral print evoking the heady summer fragrance of blooming florets nestled within delicate petals. Part of the Great Masters collection of wallcoverings paying homage to the master artisans, craftsmen, and celebrated monarchs who shaped the six iconic royal residences that Historic Royal Palaces now care for. The design draws directly on the rose’s particular significance for the Tudors and on the magnificent Rose Garden in full summer abundance.

Filmed at Hampton Court Palace at the height of the June rose season, Cole & Son’s ‘Hampton Roses’ brings together the voices of craft and cultivation, tracing the thread that connects centuries of pattern-making with the living roses that inspired Hampton Roses wallpaper and the wider Great Masters collection.

We spoke to Head Gardener for both Kensington and Hampton Court Palaces, Graham Dillamore, about the five-hundred-year legacy that inspired this enchanting design.

The much-loved Chiavi Segrete combines two influential Fornasetti motifs: mystical, dense leaves concealing golden, antique keys. This fanciful design has a magical quality, drawing the eye through and around the leaves to discover each of the ‘secret keys’ hidden within.

Sophie Jacobsen created an installation called ‘Disco Aperitivo’ – tableware paying homage to 1970s Italian disco glamour. When Sophie was viewing potential spaces for this launch, an apartment already adorned with Nuvolette wallpaper felt like the perfect choice. ‘Fornasetti embodies the very best of sophisticated maximalism, something Italian design is so capable of capturing, which resonates deeply with my personal taste and design ethos’, Sophie explains.

Cole & Son has long been a collaborator with the Italian atelier. Each design within the shared canon involves a process of deep translation – a genuine dialogue between two houses whose commitment to craft, detail, and the decorative arts is equally nuanced.
