Every home has a story to tell, and often, it’s the stories our clients share with us that make a project so special. We love hearing about what a space once was and what our clients dream of creating for its next chapter.

For Amy at Bijou Barn and her partner John, that story began with a Victorian bullpen, once home to a Blonde D’Aquitaine bull named Albert.

Today, the space has taken on an entirely new life. Original oak beams and exposed brickwork remain, preserving its history, while an O&B Shaker kitchen brings a new, practical and beautiful purpose to the room.

Every kitchen has its favourite spot. Perhaps it's a stool at the island for early morning coffee, the stretch of worktop where you prepare supper, or the corner that catches the afternoon sun.

With a shared love of interiors and a clear vision for their home, our clients wanted a kitchen that would feel welcoming and connected to external surroundings.

Set within an oak and glass extension, the space brings together natural textures and neutral tones.

With limited wall space, the island became central to the design. Hand-painted on site, it offers generous storage and prep space, plus a floating seating area for family and friends to gather.

Unusually, our clients opted for more drawers than cupboards, creating generous, easily accessible storage. And it works wonderfully.
