Decorators sometimes use car body filler on wood.

It’s hard, it dries quickly, and you can sand it nice and smooth. I can see why people use it. Just be careful, because some of them contain styrene. Check the tin, and wear a decent mask when you sand it. You don’t want to be breathing the dust in, regardless of which filler you use.

Also, if the wood’s rotten, don’t just whack filler over it. Get rid of the soft wood and sort out whatever’s letting the water in first, or the repair won’t last.

HB42 Ultimate Wood Filler is a similar two-part filler, but it doesn’t contain styrene. For bigger exterior repairs, like rotten window frames, I’d use the Oxera Rebuild system.

I attempted to spray paint 2 identical units using 2 different sprayers. this is what I had to deal with (and yes I did cry at one point)

the sprayers I used were the Inokraft Neo Airless Sprayer and the Wagner WallPerfect

Fixing it yourself would mean a lot of filling and sanding, then applying lining paper. It’s a lot of work and, if you don’t have dust-free sanders, a lot of mess. But then plasterers make a mess too, so you may as well roll your sleeves up and get stuck in.

We always paint onto the tiles, then scrape the paint off later. Little tricks like this speed the job up no end.
