A little corner of colour, comfort and joy. 🌸

I love finding ways to make overlooked spaces a clear purpose.

This little corner started as a cosy spot to curl up, but with a comfortable floor cushion and a beautiful mirror, it could become something else entirely: a relaxed little make-up corner for taking your time with your evening beauty routine (see second slide).

I think our homes should make space for those special rituals that make us feel good and ground us.

Sometimes, it’s not about creating more space. It’s about seeing the possibilities in the space you already have.

The Promise of Spring

This is currently one of my favourite ‘special’ corners at home — a family heirloom that has been in my family for almost 80 years.

Much like where it hung in my childhood home, it now has a place in my entrance hall.

Called The Promise of Spring, it’s a period fine-art print, believed to date from the late Victorian or early Edwardian era. The original work was created by British artist A. Glendenning.

I particularly love how my Golden Pothos has found its way around it, with the vines draping down alongside the artwork — almost bringing The Promise of Spring to life.

I love using plants in a living space for this reason. They don’t just add greenery; they bring vibrancy, movement and depth, softening architectural lines and adding another layer to the atmosphere of a room.

And I think having heirlooms around us does something equally important. They bring a sense of personal history and belonging, reminding us that our homes aren’t just spaces we inhabit — they’re places where our stories continue.

Sometimes it’s the simplest things that make a space feel alive.

If you’re working on a decorating project with a tight budget, there are a couple of simple ways to make your money go further without compromising on the look.

1. Don’t always pay for the paint brand.

Found the perfect colour in a premium paint brand? Ask for it to be colour-matched by a more affordable brand. You can often get very close to the colour you love without paying the premium price tag.

2. Check the “mistakes” shelf.

Your local DIY store may have a selection of mis-tinted or unwanted paint that they’re selling off cheaply. Have a look through what’s available and see if there’s a colour that works with your palette. You might find a bargain — and sometimes a colour you wouldn’t have considered otherwise.

Flowers are such a simple, quick and easy way to elevate the energy in any room. This is something my grandmother knew firmly believed. She always said: "A home deserves fresh flowers at least once a week." She had the most beautiful rose garden and whenever I put roses in my home, I always think of her and how she nurtured my love for creating beautiful living spaces.

THE POWER OF ONE

When you work with a colour palette that predominantly consists of strong rich colours, using one of those colours as your primary colour can make the rest of your palette easier to use.

In this living room, the deep olive green used on the walls gives the room its visual weight and creates a backdrop against which mustard, burgundy, rusty terracotta and different patterns can comfortably coexist.

It sounds counterintuitive, but sometimes the way to make several colours work together isn’t to introduce less colour — it’s to give them something strong enough to relate to.

Confident colour use can create the harmony that a restrained palette sometimes struggles to find.

When clients ask me to design bespoke storage, one of the biggest challenges is helping them visualise how the finished piece will look in their home.

That’s where 3D renders become invaluable. Using the exact dimensions of the space, I can create a realistic preview of the final design before a single piece is built.

For clients who don’t naturally think in plans and elevations, it bridges the gap between imagination and reality. It also gives us the opportunity to refine details, explore ideas, and make final adjustments before production begins.

This carousel takes you through that journey - from the initial concept and 3D visualisation to the completed bespoke piece, exactly as envisioned.
