Alban Rae Home Alban Rae Home began in Autumn 2024, but the idea had been brewing for years. She found joy in sourcing antique pieces that balanced history with modern living.

Fiona’s love for interiors started in 2017 when she and her husband bought their first home—a 90s house in need of character. After qualifying in her healthcare career, Fiona and her husband took on a new challenge: restoring a 1920s home in St Albans. Hours spent hunting for unique pieces, experimenting with colours, and blending old with new deepened her passion for design. During maternity leav

e in 2023, Fiona reflected on what truly brought her joy—creating a home filled with meaningful, timeless pieces. A weekend antique find sparked an idea, and she crafted her first reed diffusers and matchstick holders, laying the foundation for Alban Rae Home. At Alban Rae Home, we curate unique, sustainable pieces—antiques and modern designs chosen with care. I’m often asked for my Grande Réderie d’Amiens treasure hunting top tips. After 3 visits, this is everything I’ve learnt to help you secure the best treasure, and survive whilst doing it 🤍🇫🇷✨

save for your next visit 📌

1. Book early
Central stays go quickly. Stay as close to the market as you can, you’ll thank yourself later.

2. Arrive Saturday afternoon
Parking fills fast and roads close. Earlier makes everything easier.

3. Don’t be fooled
It’s called a Sunday market, but the best pieces go from Saturday evening onwards.

4. Come prepared for any weather
Rain or shine, it carries on. Don’t miss out by heading home early.

5. Bring a torch
A good one. You’ll need it to properly check pieces at night.

6. Bring banana boxes
Perfect for stacking and protecting your finds.

7. Bring a cart
Save your arms and avoid breakages. Fill it before offloading.

8. Bring bubble wrap
Not all sellers have it. Better to come prepared.

9. Bring hand wipes
You’ll be digging through dusty boxes all day.

10. Lip balm & hand cream
Small things, but make a big difference over a long day.

11. Drinks & snacks
You’ll easily hit 20–30k steps. Stay fuelled.

12. Have a price in mind
Know your limit so you can walk away quickly.

13. Don’t be afraid to negotiate
It’s expected. Offer what you’re happy with, and a little French helps.

As we get closer to La Grande Réderie d’Amiens this weekend… 🇫🇷🤍

I thought it would be nice to look back at some of the pieces I found there last April on my first sourcing trip abroad, and how I styled them once they made it home.

I can’t wait to see what we pick up this time, and to start imagining how they might live and be used again ✨
