Three fireplaces, three gas fires, one central London project.

We supplied and installed by three 6.9kW remote-controlled gas fires, each with a high-definition log set and ember glow effect. The fire chambers were fabricated and sprayed matt black, so the flames have a clean, dark backdrop.

Our team also handled the design coordination and drawings, gas connection and commissioning, and flue testing, inspection and certification on all three fires, working alongside the project’s design studio and contractor.

A Charnwood Aire 4 wood burning stove by Charnwood Stoves , now sitting in a classic white fireplace in West London.

Some of the most important work on this job is the part you can’t see. We took out the timber behind the slips and replaced it with non-combustible Promasil board, so the stove sits safely in the opening. We also fitted a new 5” flue system, finished in the chamber with stove pipe, a closure plate and a 45-degree swivel bend to line everything up neatly.

The installation was HETAS commissioned to meet Building Regulations, and we fitted a CO alarm as part of the job.

The cast iron fireplace stayed. It just needed some careful work so it could take a stove. 🔥

This Stovax County 5 wood burning stove by Stovax & Gazco in matt black now sits inside the existing fireplace in this Merton home. The fireplace was cut and adjusted to fit the stove, and a steel matt black interior and a new back hearth were added behind it.

Before any of that, the chimney was swept and surveyed. It was then lined with a 5” flue liner and terminal, and the stove was connected with stove pipe and a closure plate. You don’t see these parts, but they’re what make a wood burner work properly.

This job shows how a wood burning stove installation can work with a period fireplace instead of replacing it.

Out with the old tiled insert, in with a Charnwood Aire 4 🔥 Charnwood Stoves

This wood burning stove installation in Wimbledon started with us taking down the existing timber mantelpiece so we could remove the tiled insert behind it. The Charnwood Aire 4 in black now sits in a high-temperature matt black steel chamber, with slate slips and headers and a slate hearth. We then refitted the mantelpiece around it.

Most of the work you can’t see is up the chimney. We fitted 11 metres of 6” flue liner and finished the top with a terracotta pot hanger terminal. An external air kit lets the stove draw its combustion air from outside. We also fitted a CO alarm, and the whole installation was HETAS commissioned for Building Regulations.

Honed black granite, a reeded black chamber and a stepped Art Deco-style surround make a striking combination for this wood burning stove installation in Merton Park, SW20.

The stove is the Onyx Olympus 5. It’s a DEFRA-approved wood burner, so it’s suitable for London’s smoke control areas, and it’s fitted with a 5” flue system. The front hearth is honed black granite, boxed and lipped, with a matching back hearth, slips and headers. That gives the customer’s own surround a clean, dark opening to frame.

The job started with a chimney sweep, a survey and removal of what was there. It finished with HETAS commissioning and sign-off under Building Regulations.

Stovax Chesterfield 5 wood burning stove by Stovax & Gazco installation in Balham, fitted inside a slate fireplace we’ve just restored.

This is one of two fireplaces we worked on in the same house. Stripping and polishing the slate brings out the carved corbels and the panelled detail down each leg.

The stove is connected to the chimney with a new stove pipe and closure plate, and the installation has been HETAS commissioned to meet Building Regulations. New slips and headers, a boxed and lipped front hearth and a back hearth finish the opening.
