MR | Concept diagram
In response to the request for a house for 5000 books, the core idea of this project replied with two giant bookshelves as structural and conceptual axes of the building.

The distribution of the functions of the house, following the brief from the client, develops three main areas - kitchen/conservatory, utility, and meditation area, in a strong relationship with the context, where the old oak and beech trees act as attractors and focal points to guide the orientation and development of the two volumes of the house.

In this massing diagram: the main core space, the double skin of permeable wall and the bookshelves, the staircase and entrance position, the central ceiling, and the relationship with the two trees.
This option has a flat roof, which would simplify the structure of the whole building and allow the creation of one or potentially 2 terrace spaces on the first floor.

The owners approached AMA to reconsider the ground floor of this Victorian terrace house in Belsize Park. The client brief was to adapt the house into a contemporary, comfortable family house, improving the kitchen and living area with an extension on the rear.

The rear facade is a composizion of frames, light render and fluted concrete. The discrete frame of the door overlooking the rear garden is almost invisible, in order to read the garden from inside as a natural, changeable painting.

A carefully considered roof light introduces daylight to the bedrooms of the upper floors, in this extension project. Following the rays of light, a wall gently curves, giving shape to a new thin stair within a double-height enclosure that leads to guest accommodation within the new dormer extension.
