INFLUENCERS SHOULDN'T BE AT THE F1... ๐๏ธ
What are your thoughts? These are mine: (p.s I didn't go)
You might sit on the side of the line that feels influencers don't deserve to go to events like this if they're not true fans.
BUT....
They're there as part of a marketing strategy for businesses.
Sponsors pay millions to stick a logo on a car or uniform. Because they want exposure. Those same brands are allotted a number of guests. Those guests generally need to provide a return in audience and viewership.
An influencer might accept an invite to an experience many people just don't get access to or can't afford. But they were invited for one reason, and that's getting eyes on the brand and, in this case, eyes on F1.
It's not up to us as individuals to decide whose eyes are the right eyes and who deserves what.
For example, I've grown to love the NFL (yes, I know it's not 'real' football), but if I hadn't been exposed to it by my partner, I may have never known how much I enjoy it. Basically, I needed someone who influences me to show me how enjoyable the sport is.
We have some hardcore F1 fans here, but just being a fan of anything doesn't mean you are more deserving or vice versa.
All that's happening here is you are observing how business and marketing work in real time. It might not seem fair or may just feel annoying.
Without money, sponsorship, and exposure, the sports we love would just collapse.
I've seen so much discussion on this topic this week. As someone who has been working as a content creator online for 11 years, I thought I'd give my two cents.
Love the F1, I know you do. It's an incredible sport, but this isn't unique to the F1, it's a business strategy developed to reach billions of people who use social media.
