I have a confession⦠Iāve always struggled with fashionā¦
I love clothes and, as a creative, I love being creative with what I wear, but Iāve never really felt like Iāve fitted into one particular style. I LOVE country fashion just as much as I love a classic little black dress, but that very polished, put-together version of country style has never quite worked for me ā partly because it just doesnāt fit with the way we live. Life here is muddy, messy, outdoorsy and practical.
Iām much happier in a long, loose skirt or dress, boots, layers and lots of knitwear. Things I can move in and get muddy in, but that still feel feminine and a little whimsical.
And at the ripe old age of 38, I think Iām finally figuring out what my own version of country style actually isā¦
A linen skirt and shirt, layers of knitwear, a wax jacket and wellies. Standing in a field with the sheep, hair completely unbrushed and probably a bit windsweptā¦
Less polished country lady, more whimsical wild woman whoās wandered in from the fields but can also wander straight to the pub!
Natural fabrics, loose layers, big knits, muddy boots and messy hair. Soft and feminine, but practical enough to actually live in. Because now Iām outside here on the farm every day, I want clothes I can walk through a muddy field in, garden in, carry things around in ā and still feel like me.
I donāt want to feel perfectly put together all the time. Itās just not me. Thereās absolutely a time and a place for it, but it isnāt my everyday reality.
Instead, I want to consciously curate a wardrobe around the life I actually live ā grounded, comfortable, feminine, a little bit undone and beautifully wild.
Thereās always been a bit of wild in meā¦
Maybe at 38 Iām finally realising I donāt need to tame her quite so muchā¦. I just need to dress like her āŗļø
(You best believe I fell off that wall at the end!)
