A few years ago, after listening to one too many interior design podcasts while sewing away in my workroom, I decided it would be a brilliant idea to paint our entire hallway dark grey.
And I mean everything.
Skirting boards.
Door frames.
Staircase.
Doors.
Window sills.
The whole shebang… GREY.
It took me forever to do — and when I finally finished… I absolutely hated it 😭
Everything I thought would “pop” was swallowed by the darkness. Instead of feeling cosy or dramatic, it just felt flat. And every time I walked through the front door, the entrance to our home made me feel a little bit sad.
But not anymore.
Three years later, I finally found the motivation to tackle it again — and return the space to something that actually feels like us.
The woodwork is now a beautiful light hessian tone, and suddenly my pops again 🤎
Above the dado rail we chose a soft truffle shade, which feels warm and gentle rather than heavy.
And when the kitchen door is open and you see it leading into our green and cream kitchen… it just works.
It feels calm.
It feels welcoming.
It feels like home again.
And I’m so glad I trusted my gut this time.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s spent weeks painting something… only to wish I hadn’t? 😅
