Planning a new kitchen and wondering how to get your lighting design right?

“When thinking about lighting for your new kitchen or open plan family space,” explains our MD, Luke, “There are 4 main lighting layer categories to consider for designing the scheme: ambient, task, accent and mood lighting.

Whilst ambient lighting is designed to evenly illuminate a space or zone, mood lighting is suitable for background or nighttime with softer lighting to set the scene.

In a kitchen, task lighting is also very important and specifically designed for activities such as reading, cooking or cleaning.

Finally, accent lighting may also be used to great effect to highlight a feature, or draw attention to a specific area of your room.”

Here, our Managing Director, Luke explains what inspired him when he founded the company in 2005.

This Sevenoaks family came to us with a clear goal: create a space for films, family time and entertaining. But as we dug deeper, it became clear the home’s foundations needed work first and, to complicate matters further, Wi-Fi and networking issues meant streaming, video calls and everyday use were all falling short.

Never ones to shy away from a problem, we set to work and rebuilt the infrastructure from the ground up, before turning our attention to the basement and designing a space that’s as social as it is cinematic.

Think Dolby Atmos 5.2.4 surround sound, a 120” acoustically transparent screen, projection, motorised reclining seating, bespoke fabric panelling, controllable mood lighting ... and a pool table to tie it all together.
