Two months ago I had never upholstered anything before. Today, the final chair in a set of six is complete ✨
This beautiful antique captain’s chair is the final chair I’ve been restoring and reupholstering as part of a complete dining set.
The solid mahogany was far too beautiful to hide, so the original character of the timber has been retained and given a rich, dark two-tone paint and stain finish, allowing the curves and spindles to remain very much part of the design.
Upholstered in Morris & Co. ‘Seaweed’ fabric, the intricate botanical design is offset against the dark timber, with gold braid and individually placed gold studs providing the finishing details.
The original upholstery had deteriorated beyond saving, so there was no pattern to work from. Having never made a pattern from scratch before, I held my breath while cutting some of the fabric pieces!
And with that, all six chairs are finished 🥰
The full dining set is almost complete, and I cannot WAIT to show you the transformation in its entirety.
