It’s not a word you hear everyday, but I actually chose felicitous long before I ever imagined having a home account.

Obviously, it’s a word I chose because of my name, but when I tried to find a word to describe the kind of home I was trying to create, it was actually a near-perfect match.

The Felicitous Home

For as long as I can remember, this is the home I’ve always strived to create. One that’s not only carefully designed and comfortable, but is suited to our family.

When the children were little, that meant finding aesthetically pleasing ways to store their toys, so it was not only a home that felt lived in and to be enjoyed, but also a calm, relaxing retreat when they went to bed.

These days, it’s more about creating a place for us the gather and the perfect spot to enjoy my coffee, cake or cocktail.

Nearly a year on, we still have an incomplete to-do list for the living room.

1. Replace the curtains

Removing the carpet and underlay and replacing it with Amtico has left us with curtains that hang about 5cm off the floor. I have kindly been gifted some new ones from THREE GIRLS but I don’t want to hang them until we…

2. Repaint the room

Choosing a neutral paint colour for our west facing living room is proving to be a challenge. I’ve lost track of the number of tester pots I’ve bought, but here’s a few of the contenders.

3. Caulk the panelling

We stared this project months ago and it’s still not complete. There is even a wall which hasn’t even been panelled because we need to change the radiator first.

The reason we haven’t caulked it is because we’re repainting the room. Caulking it will only make it look more unfinished so, again, this job rests on my ability to choose a new colour.

4. Tile the fire chamber

I’m in no rush to do this, as I actually quite like it painted white, but as you’ll see it does mean that there is a gap that is visible each side.

I’m going to use the same tiles that we had in our old home, but we haven’t found a tiler yet. Even getting a response from any of them has been impossible.
