AD | Welcome to episode one of Deck the Halls with Davidsons Homes 🎄

I’ve been invited to dress the Blaby show home for Christmas, bringing a little festive magic to this lovely, characterful home.

With its traditional details, winding staircase and cosy family spaces, a heritage-inspired Christmas felt like the perfect fit.

I’ve chosen rich burgundy, warm browns, brass accents and a little bit of rattan, with plenty of greenery to bring it all together.

I’ve taken inspiration from the classic decorations I’ve loved for years, choosing pieces that feel timeless rather than trend-led.

There are plenty more Christmas boxes to unpack and I can’t wait to start decorating and styling the show home.

It’s taken a couple years, a few changes and a recent rethink, but our living room has come a long way since the day we first viewed the house.

From that very first viewing to making it our own, there have been a few different versions along the way. And after a little more trial and error with the paint colour, I think we’ve finally got there.

I’m so pleased with how it looks now. It feels warm, inviting and just that little bit cosier.

I’ve been thinking about why I post on instagram , and actually managed to find a list of reasons.

Instagram can sometimes feel like it’s all about selling, influencing and keeping up. But that’s never really been why I started sharing here.

So, five reasons I post on Instagram…

I love interiors. I love making our new build feel like ours, changing things, getting things wrong, changing them again and sharing the process along the way. Our home is never finished, and I quite like it that way.

This is why I started. I come here for inspiration. Homes, interiors, travel, places to eat, little details and ideas I’d never have thought of myself.

A finished corner. A good coffee. A weekend away. A table set for dinner. The little moments that make ordinary life feel special.

Some of the loveliest conversations, recommendations and friendships have come from this little corner of Instagram. That’s something I never expected when I started and something I’m incredibly grateful for.

I genuinely enjoy taking a photo, putting a room together, and sharing a post.

So, that’s it really.

I’m not here to tell you what you should buy, how your home should look or what you should be doing. Yes, I do ads on here, occasionally, but it will always be for a product I genuinely love.

I’m here to inspire, not influence. F.x

You may recall that back in the summer we bought a new Ninja bean to cup coffee machine, but returned it a week later because it simply didn’t work very well! Fast forward a few weeks and we tentatively chose the Sage Express Impress to replace our trusty Nespresso machine.

It’s been a few weeks since we set it up, but I’ve waited until now to share it because I wanted to be sure we were happy with it and it’s safe to say we love it. Great coffee (using beans bought from one of our favourite coffee shops ) and easy to use. It’s the perfect upgrade to our morning coffee routine.

After a change of heart on the colour, last week, I so pleased to finally be able to reveal the living room makeover. There are some pictures for the walls on the way and the leather sofa will return once we’ve solved the sofa situation, but for now it’s as close to finished as I think it will ever be.

Nearly a year on, we still have an incomplete to-do list for the living room.

1. Replace the curtains

Removing the carpet and underlay and replacing it with Amtico has left us with curtains that hang about 5cm off the floor. I have kindly been gifted some new ones from THREE GIRLS but I don’t want to hang them until we…

2. Repaint the room

Choosing a neutral paint colour for our west facing living room is proving to be a challenge. I’ve lost track of the number of tester pots I’ve bought, but here’s a few of the contenders.

3. Caulk the panelling

We stared this project months ago and it’s still not complete. There is even a wall which hasn’t even been panelled because we need to change the radiator first.

The reason we haven’t caulked it is because we’re repainting the room. Caulking it will only make it look more unfinished so, again, this job rests on my ability to choose a new colour.

4. Tile the fire chamber

I’m in no rush to do this, as I actually quite like it painted white, but as you’ll see it does mean that there is a gap that is visible each side.

I’m going to use the same tiles that we had in our old home, but we haven’t found a tiler yet. Even getting a response from any of them has been impossible.
