Going away for a few days is lovely…but being back home is even better!
Our trip to London principally to see First Aid Kit at the Royal Albert Hall was packed with activity. Staying on Queensgate, we were walking distance to lots of Chelsea favourites as well as a great visit to the V&A ..Victoria and Albert Museum… loved the Burberry exhibition and the theatre and arts displays.
We ate in several lovely places EP on Duke of York square, CERU Restaurants 🍴 in South Kensington and quaffed a few glasses The Kensington, London. We revisited old haunts such as The Kings Road where I bumped into Tess of Tess Newall as she was doing a mural for a shop…love her art!!! Saw a sad sight of the very recently closed Designers Guild shop! Mr Atrium had a bit of a satisfying shopping moment on Sloane Square ( gotta love Peter Jones and a bit of Ralph!)….
Even the journey back via Kings Cross ( yep we did the train and that’s an unusual decision by Mr Atrium..)..was fascinating as we explored , the amazing recreation of the derelict area behind the station, full of the hip retail indie brands and a clever renovation of its industrial past. And how fabulous is the new ( ok it moved 15 years ago) Central St Martins campus…with Google and The Guardian as neighbours…it felt very exciting and young! You can tell I’ve not been back to London for quite some time !
And as for seeing my favourite, loved for 15 years band, First Aid Kit … they did not disappoint…playing with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall! It was emotional! I blabbed!
Then to top it all off we popped up to Newcastle for the evening to see another favourite band of mine ( for nearly 40 years!) The Wonder Stuff! An evening of grooving, singing, sticking to the floor with a plastic skiff in hand…
Thank you Mr Atrium for a great trip, week, music and fun! We are exhausted!
But it is lovely to be back in my bed with a cuppa, up in the Dales too, looking at the cows on the hill from my bedroom window, planning my next batch of makes.
