Thank you to everyone who has supported me on my journey so far…

It’s things like this that make all the hard work worth it.

Huge thank you to Chris Cooke - Mayor of Middlesbrough for opening my first ever solo show Being Bella… Art Exhibition @ Cafe Etch.

The creative work of a talented young artist has been recognised by Mayor Chris Cooke.

Bella is only 15 but has already held a solo exhibition at Middlesbrough's Cafe Etch and spends her weekends studying at the Northern School of Art - and has been offered a place there to study Fine Art from September 2024.

One of the guests in attendance at the launch of her show was Mayor Cooke, who was so impressed he purchased some of the art to display in his Mayoral Office at Middlesbrough Council's Fountain Court HQ.

He said: “I was taken aback by the sheer determination that Bella has at such a young age.

"She's very talented and it is important she gets the platform and recognition she deserves. She has a bright future and I wish her the very best."

Today is a sad day for art…
Pineapple Black was one of the first galleries to exhibit my work when I was just THIRTEEN!!!
They took a chance on me and inspired me filling me with confidence that my work does belong in a gallery.
I hope they are able to find somewhere to continue the amazing support they give to local artists.
Good luck to Bobby Benjamin & Stephen in their next ventures.

Can you believe it’s been 5 years since we first invited you to come and look around the space we turned into Pineapple Black?! Seems like a fitting time to make public what some of you may have already heard whispers about…

When we opened we thought we’d put on a few exhibitions and then disappear. Instead we spent the next 5 year trying to showcase artists - emerging and established -, highlight the issues faced by our diverse community, help artists establish a career and, most importantly, create a safe and welcoming environment for people to be themselves, explore their interests and be part of a community - and we really hope we achieved that!

All good things come to an end and Pineapple Black is no different. We have been DIY to our core, operating without funding and using our space and time to create a platform for our community; but our ship has reached its final port.

We hope you have felt inspired, included, supported and welcome at Pineapple Black. After working with over 1000 artists over countless exhibitions, though this is not the end for us as an idea, it is the end of the physical space we have called home.

Thanks to every person who has shown work, visited shows, shared a link or generally supported our independent project in any way. You guys made plPineapple Black what it was, we just showed up and opened the doors.

It’s not over quite yet though, we won’t be closing til March and you know we’re gonna have a lot of fun between now and then, so keep showing up, keep supporting or regions artists and keep spending money so we don’t walk away empty handed 😉
