Homestead Creative

Homestead Creative Hi I’m Karen, an Orcadian based in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. I make beautiful handmade Footstools and Wall Hangings. Commissions welcome 😊 We love chairs!

We love to breathe life into tired old chairs with beautiful fabrics and reinvigourated woodwork. Homestead Upholstery is a small but developing upholstery business based in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. It was set up in 2014 by Karen Knowles who is passionate about chairs. We specialise in taking unloved vintage and retro chairs and giving them a new life by bringing them right back up to date withou

t losing their original charm. We strip them back to the frame removing old fabric and any tired fillings. We give the woodwork some TLC with lovely rich wax then build them back up again using high quality materials. Finally (and most importantly), we add gorgeous fabrics to create beautiful one off chairs. Have a look at our gallery to see some of the work we have done.

Hello folks👋🏻 from sunny Mirfield! ☀️

Give me a ☀️ if you see this post and help a wee business to be seen 🙏🏻

It’s 10.30am and 25°C already 🥵 It’s due to get as high as 33°C today! 🔥

The youngest has decided it’s too hot for school and refused to go today!
The eldest is on his DofE expedition so I hope he has remembered to put sun cream on!

I’m working on a ocean hanger today. I wish I was by the sea today and could jump in - it looks so inviting! 🌊 🧊

As you can see Hilda is being very helpful too .. she’s a cutie.

I’m going to make another one of these hangers and do a peedie giveaway. Who’s in? Comment below ⬇️

Stay cool today folks! Karen x

Hello Folks! 👋🏻

It’s such a special day today! Summer Solstice and Father’s Day 🥰

I know that today is difficult for many folk and it’s not lost on me. I am so grateful to have such a brilliant Dad and that my boys have a brilliant Dad too 🥰

The summer solstice is a funny day - so much wonderful light ☀️ but it also marks a change where the days start to shorten.

Sending love and light to everyone. Karen xx

Hey Folks! 👋🏻

How’s everyone today? I have just about recovered after the Scotland game. ⚽️ They showed such resilience after that shocking opening goal! 💪🏻

Here’s the finished St Ninia’s Isle piece. It just needs to be framed then I’ll pop it in my peedie shop.

St Ninian’s Isle is a small tied island connected by a sand tombolo to the mainland of Shetland.

A tombolo is a natural sand ridge formed by wave action that connects an island to the mainland. That’s your geography lesson for today 😊

I’ve been to Shetland many years ago but I’ve not been here. It’s beautiful and it’s on my list of top places to visit!

Have a lovely Saturday folks whatever you’re doing. Karen x

Hey Folks! 👋🏻

How’s everyone today and how is it Thursday already?

Here’s my current work in progress. It’s the first time I’ve made a landscape piece of art.

Do you recognise this place? Comment below ⬇️

Here’s a clue - it’s not in Orkney but it’s not too far away.

Have a lovely day folks! Karen x

Hey Folks! 👋🏻

Happy Tuesday! Here’s a peek at my current work in progress ..

‘The Brough from the Knowe o’ Saverough’

Inspired by the painting I inherited from my Granny & Da.

The Knowe o’ Saverough is on the links in Birsay by the sand pit. My Dad says it was excavated in 1862 and there were several graves found there and an old Celtic church bell too. It is in the Museum of Scotland Edinburgh.

Every day’s a learning day!

This will be framed and available from my peedie shop on Friday. Karen x

Hey Folks! 👋🏻

I inherited this painting of the Brough o’ Birsay from my Granny & Da. It used to hang in their sitting room above the fire and I have always loved it.

I don’t know much about it like who painted it or when it was painted. My Dad believe it’s pretty old as it was painted before the lighthouse was built. Does anyone recognise the style?

I like the fact it’s a view from the far side of the links. I must have walked down that path hundreds of times in my childhood! My happy place.

Anyhoo it’s inspired a hanger. Keep your eyes peeled! 👀

Have a lovely weekend! Karen x

Hey Folks! 👋🏻

The framed Homestead Hanger ‘Sea Haven - Hamnavoe’ has flown off to its new home. I love that I got to use a Harris Tweed orb in this one ❤️

There are still some lovely framed hangers in my peedie online shop.

Hey Folks! 👋🏻

What happens when you cross a Homestead Hanger with a Homestead Footstool?

A beautiful one of a kind footstool!

This was a gift for a special sister celebrating a milestone birthday and I’ve been told she was delighted! 🤩

Shame about my reel skills!
