Allen & Son

I am sure you all know that the clocks go back this weekend, so an extra hour in bed, though in our case, Badger might not allow this!

This time of year always makes us feel a little gloomy, with the dark nights drawing in, and reminding us that another year end is fast approaching.

Remember to make the most of every moment with your cherished family and friends.

Stay safe and warm this weekend.

At Allen & Son, we understand that not everyone wants a traditional funeral. Direct cremation offers a simple, no-fuss alternative, allowing families to say goodbye in their own way, at their own pace.

Unlike national providers, we are a local, independent funeral director, meaning your loved one stays in our care at all times, with no long-distance transportation or hidden fees, and usually at a lesser cost.

✨ Personal care from a trusted local team
✨ Transparent pricing – no hidden costs
✨ Your loved one remains close to home

If you’re considering direct cremation and want a caring, local service, we’re here to help. Please do feel free to call or pop in to see us for an informal chat.

🩷💙 Baby Loss Awareness Week 💙🩷

Allen & Son are here to support Baby Loss Awareness Week (9–15 October).

Having personal experience of this himself, James knows how devastating this can be, and would welcome anyone to meet with him, just for an informal chat, and to let you know that you are not alone.

For more advice and support, please visit Baby Loss Awareness UK or Sands - baby loss charity

You may wish to join the Wave of Light, by lighting a candle at 7pm on Thursday 15th October, in memory of all the babies who are loved and never forgotten.
(We do have some little candles in our office, so please do feel free to pop in and collect one, if wished)

Our thoughts are with all families remembering their precious little ones. 🩷💙

We feel that with all the advertising on TV & radio, people may think that national companies are the only option for an unattended cremation.

We can and will support any families who wish to have a simple, unattended cremation for their loved one, whilst keeping them safely in our care at our premises in Moreton-in-Marsh.

All arrangements are handled with a personal face-to-face discussion, whether that be at our office or in your own home, and your loved one is looked after with the care and dignity they deserve.

As the season changes to Autumn and the nights are drawing in, it reminds us of how quickly life passes by and the relatively short time we have with each other.

Cherish your family and friends and make lots of happy memories to hold forever in your heart.

Wishing everyone a safe and peaceful weekend.

This Sunday is the National Day of Forgiveness.

This special day encourages people to let go of past hurts,
fostering personal peace and stronger relationships.

By choosing to forgive, we unburden ourselves from lingering anger and resentment, paving the way for emotional freedom.

Embracing forgiveness offers profound benefits. It not only enhances mental well-being by reducing stress and anxiety, but also promotes physical health, leading to improved heart health and a strengthened immune system.

When we forgive, we cultivate empathy and understanding, enriching our connections with others and contributing to a more compassionate and kinder society.

How to Celebrate National Forgiveness Day:

Start with Stillness
A bit of silence can help you listen to yourself more clearly. Start the day in quiet. No music. No distractions. Just breathe. Let your thoughts settle without judgment. Create space for clarity.

Say What Matters
You don’t need to fix everything today. A short note or call that comes from the heart can begin something new or help mend relationships.

Forgive Yourself Gently
Look at yourself with kindness. Let go of past regrets.

Support a Kinder World
One peaceful act or kind gesture often leads to another.

~~~
Let's all try to be just that little bit more forgiving and kind to each other whilst we have the chance.
Wishing everyone a peaceful weekend.
More than half of people feel that playing a loved one's favourite music is what gives a funeral it's true meaning (my Nan was a practical joker, and always laughing, so chose "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life" to be played as we left the church!)
Whether it's a classic hymn they were bought up on, a song they wrote and performed, or a track you once danced with them to, we're here to help you get the soundtrack just right.
Always here for your "Care and Support"
💚 More local businesses are making the Age Friendly Cotswolds pledge!
A warm thank you to Allen & Son Funeral Directors, longstanding supporters of Cotswold Friends, and the Sue Ryder charity shop in Stow-on-the-Wold for pledging their support.
Through kindness, patience, clear communication and practical help where possible, these businesses are committing to making older people and those living with dementia feel welcome, valued and supported.
Look out for the Age Friendly Cotswolds window sticker when you’re out and about—a sign of that shared commitment to our community.
Would your business like to make the pledge? Get in touch - we’d love to hear from you!
