Bogles, also known to some as the Duegar, the Little People are the sinister, shadow‑dwelling dwarfs said to haunt the mystical Simonside Hills. Hidden deep within the heather‑clad caves and jagged rocks, they emerge only when the world grows uncertain… when fog curls low, when clouds swallow the moon, when visibility thins to a veil.
Forged from ancient strength, steeped in old magic, and masters of dark metallurgy, the Bogles are feared for good reason. Travellers speak of flickering lantern lights dancing in the distance that are bright, beckoning, and impossibly warm. But those who follow soon learn the truth.
The glow dims as they draw near, shrinking to a dying ember before vanishing entirely, plunging wanderers into a darkness so complete it feels alive.
By then, it is too late. The Bogles have led them to the treacherous bogs and sheer cliffs that hunger beneath the mist.
Yet the creatures harbour a deeper craving, an insatiable desire for the luminous glow of candlelight. Time and again, they creep toward the enchanted radiance protected within the Leora Candle Shop, desperate to steal its flickering magic and twist it into a lure for their nighttime hunts.
But Leora’s glow is no ordinary light.
It is safeguarded by the Ewesley Fell Faeries, whose vigilant enchantments shimmer unseen around every flame. Each time the Bogles reach out with grasping hands, the faerie magic flares, sending them stumbling back into the shadows, their plans undone, their hunger unfulfilled.
And so the Bogles remain lurking, watching, forever frustrated while the enchanted glow of Leora continues to shine safely, a beacon untouched by their darkness.
