A Saltfire Stoves Ltd Stx-5 installed last week replacing an old stove that desperately needed a new liner.

This had one of the worst build ups of tar in a liner that we have seen in a while. This is normally caused by slumbering the stove or using poor quality fuel. This one was so bad that the tar had soaked in and leaked through the liner.

On brick flues we have a caustic spray that can be applied to remove tar but on flue liner it usually means getting a new replacement.

Tar build up can cause a chimney fire and this shows how important it is to use decent fuel and have your liner swept and checked regularly.

Can anyone guess what is going in this fireplace that we opened up recently?

Termatech TT60, now £2000 down from £2700.
