A historic warehouse of Colour and craft
A map of Newcastle made in 1888 shows that what is now the main Arts Centre site of 67 Westgate Road was the offices and warehouses of W.H.Holmes Glass Merchants and Picture Framer. While the garden along Forth Lane had been overbuilt to house a paint merchant and Colourman. This preceded by 112 years the Arts Centre’s trading departments of Frameshop and ‘details’ art materials store which was located on the same site along Forth Lane in 2000. They first operated when we took over Woolfs art and picture framer’s shop at 57 Westgate Road in 1982 which itself had been trading since 1924 in what we now known as the Assembly House.
Run by artists we continue with this fine heritage of expert service to the arts in our region and welcome customers old and new.
