Flower of the Month: The Rose

A timeless favourite, the rose is celebrated for its breathtaking variety and vibrant colour spectrum — there’s truly a rose for every occasion. Whether featured as a stunning specimen flower or as part of a beautiful arrangement, roses always make a statement.

To keep your roses looking fresh and fabulous, proper conditioning is key! Here’s how to do it right:

✨ Remove any foliage below the waterline
✨ Gently remove the thorns
✨ Cut the stems at a sharp angle to increase water uptake (you can even split the stem slightly)
✨ Roses can suffer from airlocks, causing drooping heads — but there’s a fix!

Quick Airlock Fix:
🌡 Re-cut stems on an angle
📦 Wrap the roses tightly in paper to keep the heads upright
💧 Place in about 4 inches of very hot (not boiling!) water for 20 minutes
💦 Then transfer to cold water up to the neck and leave overnight

With the right care, your roses will bloom beautifully and last much longer!

Happy Monday!! And what better way to kick off the week than with our Flower of the month.

So June’s Flower of the Month is…..Stocks

We’re head over heels for Stocks this month! With their beautiful pastel shades and sweet clove-like fragrance, it’s no wonder they’re a firm favourite among our team.

These stunning blooms are part of the brassica family ( cabbage) and have a woody stem, which should be gently hammered or split to help them take up more water. Don’t forget to remove the bottom leaves too!

Top tip: Stocks can sometimes make the water a bit whiffy – adding a couple of drops of milk to the vase can help keep things fresh.

Perfect for arrangements or simply on their own, we love pairing them with pale blue Delphinium, Clematis and delicate Astrantia for dreamy early summer bouquets.

Flower of the month - top tips for the Eustoma

1. Strip the Lower Leaves
Remove leaves below the waterline to prevent rot and keep water clean.

2. Give Them a Fresh Cut
Cut stems at an angle with clean shears before arranging — it boosts water uptake.

3. Let Them Shine
Eustomas have graceful, wavy stems and rose-like blooms — perfect as the focal flowers.

4. Mix & Match
Pair with roses, spray carnations, waxflower, eucalyptus, or soft grasses for a romantic or airy look.

5. Keep Them Cool
Display out of direct sun and away from heat. Cooler temps = longer vase life

Happy May Day! How glorious is this weather!

As it is the first of the month, it’s time for a new Flower of the Month!

Flower of the Month: Eustoma (Lisianthus)

While many would crown the peony as May’s top bloom, we’re going with a lesser-known gem — Eustoma, or as some lovingly call it, Lisianthus!

A firm favourite Lisianthus offers incredible value for money. With multiple heads per stem, a wide variety of colours, and a long vase life of up to two weeks, it’s no wonder this beauty is a staple in our arrangements.

We’re especially smitten with the Cadbury Purple Picccolo and Roseanne green, Whether you’re creating a soft romantic bouquet or a bold modern display, Lisianthus delivers elegance every time.

Why not give it a try this month? You might just find your new floral favourite.
