A unique & scarce Irish sterling silver tabernacle.
This Mid-Century Tabernacle is gold-plated Irish sterling silver made by renowned Cork-based Irish Silversmith William Egan & Sons, 1960.

The firm is best remembered for its exceptionally high-quality craftsmanship, its pivotal role in reviving the silversmithing trade in Cork, and a fascinating piece of Irish history.

Egans produced numerous prominent ceremonial & ecclesiastical pieces. Notably, they were commissioned by University College Cork (UCC) to craft their historic ceremonial mace in 1910, which revived the craft of silversmithing in the city.

This bespoke piece of Irish Celtic craft is available to view now at The Ink Jar.

Tabernacles and church furniture are becoming increasingly popular for the modern home. Can be used for a private place of worship in the home, or as jewellery safe or even as a contemporary cocktail cabinet! It's certainly a conversation piece. The taberncale can be removed from the wooden plinth stand. Each panel on the inside and the door are all fully hallmarked.
