Work has begun on our refurbishment of this family home on Dartmoor.
Located within the captivating rural landscape of Dartmoor National Park our project is surrounded by lush woodlands and granite boulders with distant landscape views, offering a tranquil retreat in the heart of Devon’s countryside.
The landscape design is light touch and seeks to work with the existing structural elements of the garden. The intention is to improve the garden’s biodiversity and create a softer setting for the house; one that is more suitable for a 21st century family whilst retaining some of the classical Victorian landscape features. The current garden is primarily laid to lawn and gravel. With the new design we seek to re-address this balance introducing a front garden, mixed borders, an orchard, a kitchen garden and wildlife friendly meadow management as well as refining access to be more comfortable. The folly, rockery, woodland copse and pathways through, will be restored. A sheltered outdoor kitchen area with dining patio incorporating existing walls within the garden, will be created. The calculated biodiversity net gains are anticipated to be + 97 %.
Internally we are refurbishing the house to improve the quality of the living accommodation and include a new wellness space replacing an existing dilapidated studio and a garage building. Utilising a palette of local stone from Blackenstone quarry, less then 6 miles from the site and a “green” biodiverse roof comprising boulders, local fauna and flora, designed to settle the building into this stunning landscape setting.
