Hello! We have some news to share.
First of all, we’d like to start by saying a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported RiverKnits over the past 10 years (yes, 10!). It has been a real joy meeting so many people who share our love of wool, colour, and creativity. We’re very grateful for all the support you’ve shown our yarn business, since its beginnings in our tiny narrowboat kitchen, to the big studio that has hosted many workshops and open days. Many of you have become friends, and our world has got bigger and brighter for having you in it.
We’re also very proud of what we’ve accomplished. We were one of the first UK indie-dyed brands to go 100% British with our wool sourcing and manufacturing. We led the way with non-superwash wool too, proving that you can indeed dye vibrant colours on non-sw yarn! It’s great to see so many more brands embracing sustainable yarns. We collaborated with fantastic people and businesses who inspired us and shared our values. We spread our love of colour through our rainbow mini skein wall, which just goes to show what engineers and spreadsheet nerds can do given enough yarn and pots of dye! Our hand-dyed marled Chimera yarn has been stocked around the world and has made its way into so many beautiful projects. We have worked with local flock owners, cuddled lambs, sniffed fleeces, explored mills, all to bring the very best of the wool that we could find on our doorstep (or along the canal as it happened)! What an adventure.
Now it’s time to close the door on RiverKnits. You may be aware that Becci is getting more busy with music, and Markus has accepted a new role at another company. We are both ready for new challenges and although it’s sad to end this chapter, it’s a good time for us and we are both very excited about what’s next. We will look back on our time at RiverKnits with great memories. And we still love making things with yarn, so we’re not about to disappear! Let’s stay in touch.
On a practical note: the online shop is still open. We’ve been loading the very last of our stock onto the website. We have closed the studio shop with immediate effect to give us the breathing space to sort everything out. We are still here for the time being, so you are welcome to pop in. We just ask that you phone / email ahead to check that we are available.
We are having a closing down sale, starting on Friday the 24th July. Everything is on our website. We are not dyeing any more yarn! And as our stocks dwindle, please support our lovely stockists, they may have the last skein of something you’ve been eyeing up.
That leaves us to say, again, THANK YOU. It’s been a blast. See you at a yarn show somewhere!
