Most people think bigger extensions create better homes.

I’m not convinced.

Some huge extensions still feel disconnected from the garden.

They make the middle feel deep, and often dark.

What interests me here isn’t the square footage.

It’s the way the double height glazing pulls your attention outside from almost everywhere in the room. From across multiple levels. The windows pe*****te light deeper thanks to their scale and height.

The garden stops feeling separate.

It becomes part of the architecture from deep within the home, and not just to the sides.

H O N E S T

There’s something about raw stone and black steel that just works.

Maybe because one feels ancient and permanent, while the other feels precise and contemporary. Cold meets warm. Refined meets imperfect. And somehow the contrast makes both feel stronger.

Most modern interiors try too hard to feel luxurious.
This just feels honest.

It proves you don’t need colour or clutter to make a space feel rich. You just need materials with presence.

Would you ever use exposed stone inside a contemporary home in the UK, or does it feel too Mediterranean for our climate?

Most people see windows as a way to let light in.
As an architect, I see them as a way to frame a moment.

A tree.
A shadow.
Morning fog.
The last light hitting the grass.

Almost like photographs placed carefully throughout a home. The opening itself becomes part of the composition.

That’s one of the biggest differences between how architects and clients often see a space. Clients see a window. I see the view before the window even exists.
